The following is adapted from the College Appointments Council, Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities directives and Lambton College Board of Governors by-laws.
Board members bring unique and diverse perspectives given the various backgrounds and positions they hold in the community. Board members’ individual perspectives need to be tabled during Board discussions for maximum Board effectiveness. That said, all Board members are expected to act as a cohesive group for the best interest of the College, not a particular sector of group.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for the College’s vision, mission and strategic plan.
- Appoint the president to lead the strategic plan.
- Support the president in achieving the College’s vision, mission and strategic plan.
- Ensure the needs of the community are incorporated in its strategic plan.
- Establish the annual objectives in support of the strategic plan.
- Monitor the College’s performance in meeting the annual objectives in the strategic plan, and report and publish the results.
- Enhance the College’s public image, including advocacy.
- Oversee the education program.
- Ensure financial solvency.
- Make certain the College is well-managed.
- Be informed and attend meetings.
Board members are expected to attend all meetings of the Board and any sub-committees on which they serve. At a minimum, Board members must attend at least fifty per cent of the regular meetings of the Board and must not miss more than four consecutive meetings. The Board meets up to eight times a year on Thursdays. Meetings are two to three hours in length starting at 5:00 p.m. There are two major sub-committees: Finance and Property and Programs and Services. These sub-committees meet up to eight times per year. Meetings are one to two hours in length. Board members are expected to sit on one of these two sub-committees. There is also a Board Executive Committee.

Meeting Dates
The Lambton College Board of Governors meet on the fourth Thursday of each month, September through June. Open session Board meetings generally begin at 5:00 p.m. in the College Board Room, Room B108.
Media and the general public are welcome to attend the open sessions.
