This two-year program is designed to meet both the needs of employers looking for more highly skilled and self-directed employees, and also the needs of students from a range of backgrounds, abilities and interests.

While offering a foundation program that equips our graduates with solid social science (psychology, anthropology, sociology, and political science), computing, math, and communication (written, oral, and group) skills, we also offer students the opportunity to pursue areas of personal interest within a flexible innovative environment.

Whether university or employment bound, General Arts & Science is ideal for students looking for a well-rounded post-secondary education.

Course equivalencies can be obtained through Academic Upgrading and Pre-Programs at Lambton.

Between direct employment, transfers to other programs (college and university) and upgrading, GASC graduates can be found in retail, industry, marketing and education. Two GASC alumni currently teach in the GASC program, another completed a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and is working in the Yukon (Customs & Immigration).

This program is not eligible for Second Career or other programs under the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities (MTCU) - Employment & Training Division.

Graduation Requirements
All required courses (on the following page) and eight elective courses totaling 24 or more credit hours. A final program grade point average of at least 2.0 must be obtained.

The physical demands of the classroom theory courses are not great. The demands of particular courses may be significant. Computer-based courses may require digital dexterity; technology courses may require manual dexterity; laboratory courses require good eyesight; art and ceramic courses may be physically demanding and require the ability to function well in an environment that may contain dust/particulates, glues, paints and/or solvents.

Students must read and abide by course prerequisites and skill requirements under the program description from where the course is taken. Some students with disabilities may require academic accommodation to equalize opportunities to meet the academic demands of a course or program.

General Awards

Lucia Mrowiec English Award – Awarded to the student with the highest marks in two of ENG 111, ENG 211, or ENG 311 (ENG 115, ENG 215 if offered). Student must have taken both courses during their previous academic year and must have an overall GPA of at least 3.5. No application is required. Students will be notified by the Awards office if they qualify.

School & Program Specific Awards

The Owen McGowan Memorial Award - Awarded to the student with the highest GPA after completing the first year of the General Arts and Science program - student must be returning for year two.
