• Before you sign a lease it's important to ask a lot of questions. For example, accommodations obtained in a private home is different from that in a self-contained apartment or house. The householders may set special conditions that they enforce.

The student and householder should have a written mutual agreement that includes:

    • Telephone privileges (especially with regard to long distance calls)
    • Conditions for use of the kitchen (cleanliness, clean-up etc.),
    • Parking options
    • Smoking/drinking in the home
    • Visitors

Once you have found a place to live, you should consider having all roommates sign an agreement outlining what is and what is not permitted at your place of residence.
