As the health care system in Canada changes, the Personal Support Worker (PSW) is in increasing demand in health care facilities, retirement homes and community home care settings.

The PSW assists clients with daily living needs including personal care, meals and household management.

Students are provided with the knowledge and skills to observe and respond appropriately while working in this profession.

Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care Certificate, Gentle Persuasive Approach Certificate and Non-violent Crisis Intervention are offered in this program.

Graduates of this program who have achieved a grade of "C" in all courses, are eligible to apply to Lambton College's Practical Nursing program.

Admission Requirements

O.S.S.D. or equivalent, with:
Grade 12 English C or U

Mature applicants must be at least 19 years of age by the start of classes and be out of secondary school for at least one year. Mature applicant assessment is available in the Counselling Department. The assessment(s) will demonstrate equivalency in required admission subjects. Employment Opportunities

Personal support workers are employed in community home care, long-term care homes and hospitals. They work under the supervision of professionals and according to a plan of care.
