June 2, 2016
SARNIA, June 2, 2016 – Lambton College has been honoured with two prestigious awards of excellence in Research & Innovation.
On Tuesday evening, Lambton College was presented with a national award from Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan), the national organization that represents publicly supported colleges, institutes, cegeps and polytechnics in Canada and internationally. Awards were distributed in eight categories, recognizing best practices from institutions across the country. Lambton College took the gold honour for Innovation in Applied Research Excellence outshining other institutions from across Canada when it came to criteria such as institutional commitment and the impact of the College’s research activity on small and medium-sized enterprises, the local community, the province, and students enrolled in Lambton College programs.
“Colleges and institutes are among the most dynamic institutions in the country thanks to passionate staff, teachers, researchers and administrators who work tirelessly to provide Canadians with the skills and experience they need to succeed,” said Denise Amyot, President and CEO of CICan. “Every year, the CICan Awards of Excellence recognize these dedicated people who go above and beyond to make Canada’s post-secondary education the best in the world.”
Just a few days prior to accepting the CICan award, Lambton College also received an Outstanding Business Achievement Award presented by the Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce. The annual awards ceremony recognizes outstanding businesses and individuals for their leadership in the community. Lambton College Applied Research & Innovation took home the top prize in the Innovation category, which recognizes significant achievement in business through the use or development of technology and innovative business management practices.
“Applied Research at Lambton College is innovative, visionary, productive and entrepreneurial,” says Judith Morris, President & CEO, Lambton College. “Not only have these initiatives provided a successful framework for our faculty, students and staff to work closely with our partners on real applied research projects, but they have also had a major impact on economic development across the province. I am very proud of Lambton College’s accomplishments in Applied Research, and of these two awards.”
Since 2013, Lambton College has been involved in 157 research projects in collaboration with various partners. These partnerships have also generated significant investments and in the last year alone the College has recorded a 70.3 per cent increase in research revenue.
