Lambton College celebrates 50th anniversary with county-wide Legacy Project
February 15, 2017
SARNIA, February 15, 2017 – Lambton College will commemorate its 50th anniversary with a long-lasting gift to the City of Sarnia and the County of Lambton. As a gesture of thanks to the community for its continued support throughout the past half century, the College has planned a very special Legacy Project, which will be installed in Sarnia with satellite installations extending to all 10 municipalities of Lambton County.
On Wednesday, April 5, 2017 all Lambton College students, faculty and staff will participate in the county-wide Legacy Project.
The Legacy Project, developed by local landscape designer Adam Allison, will see a grove of 50 birch trees planted in Sarnia with an additional 10 birch trees planted in each of the surrounding municipalities, for a total of 150 trees to mark both the 50th Anniversary of Lambton College and the 150th birthday of Canada.
Each grove of trees will form a semi-circle around a central legacy feature. Each of these features will be unified by words such as “community,” “innovation,” “diversity,” and “perseverance,” which have been carefully selected to depict what the College represents and the relationship that it has built with the community and the City of Sarnia.
The words of each municipal’s feature will link back to the Sarnia site, representing a shared vision and a positive future for the College and the community.
“While April 5th will be a day about celebrating our 50th Anniversary as a College, it’s this Legacy Project that will act as a continual reminder of the importance of the work we do every day for our students and with and for our community for which we can all take great pride” says Judith Morris, President & CEO, Lambton College.
In conjunction with the Legacy Project, an additional 15 individualized community projects are also being planned by College staff and departments for this day including the construction of an on-site Cat Room at the Sarnia-Lambton Humane Society, a Meditation Garden at Vision Nursing Home, and work on the Carriage House at Canatara Park.
In addition to the Legacy Project, planning is currently underway for a 50th Anniversary President’s Gala taking place in May, 2017.
