Are you a recent Office Administration - Health Services or Medical graduate? Do you wish to broaden your skills? If your Ontario College Diploma is seven years old or less, you can earn a second diploma in Office Administration - Executive in only one year. Lambton College has made it easy for Office Administration graduates to earn a second credential without having to submit transfer credit requests. All you have to do is apply directly through ontariocolleges.ca and register for the specialty you wish to pursue.

The role of administrative professionals continues to expand and executives are relying on their assistants more than ever to help address business needs. Computers facilitate the quick exchange of all types of information; however, administrative professionals must be able to craft clear and convincing messages using tact and diplomacy and prove they are the ultimate multi-taskers. Success will depend on the student's ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, customers and clients and advanced proficiency in all aspects of computer software. This double diploma opportunity will expand your knowledge and experiential portfolio which will open up more pathways in the field of office administration. In the office of the future, graduates may be required to operate more autonomously as the workforce relies more and more on mobile technology.

Advanced Management Applications

This advanced course builds on OAG-2314 and assumes prior knowledge of Microsoft Excel fundamentals. Students learn to create, format and edit professional worksheets and workbooks using advanced Microsoft Excel features. In addition, students learn Microsoft Project to create, modify and successfully manage project plans. With numerous projects to manage, one needs to stay organized and productive. Hands-on exercises for both Excel and Project are taught in a real-world environment. Practice is encouraged to achieve mastery level in Excel and Project for all outcomes taught.

Financial Applications for Business

This course introduces learners to computerized accounting systems and illustrates the practical uses of computers in an office setting. The learners work with Sage 50 Accounting Software in order to enhance the theoretical concepts learned in previous accounting courses.

Work Term (Part-Time)

Co-operative education provides students with the opportunity to apply classroom learning to the workplace, undertake career sampling and gain valuable work experience that may assist students in leveraging employment after graduation. Desktop Publishing

This is an advanced document-processing course using Windows, desktop publishing, business graphics software and authoring software. In this course students (1) develop desktop publishing skills using MS Publisher; (2) develop business graphics using MS Visio Professional; and (3) become proficient using Adobe Acrobat Pro. Advanced functions are taught and explored with an emphasis placed on producing high quality work from various sources. In addition, students enhance their keying accurately throughout the course.

Executive Capstone & Event Management

In this hybrid capstone course, students put their acquired skills and knowledge to work in the key areas of office and business administration, human resources and finance. This experience allows students to apply the skills and knowledge they have acquired during their program of study. Students are assessed on both hard and soft skills with a strong emphasis placed on software applications including opportunities for integration and collaboration. Students will problem solve, collaborate in teams, demonstrate excellent customer service, show off organizational abilities and coordinate projects, as well as produce consistent and accurate documentation. Students will coordinate and execute meetings in teams using a prescribed online meeting software followed by the team executing a professional meeting/workshop for the class in a Learning Studio.

Web Management

This is an introductory web page design course that incorporates a hands-on approach to teaching web page design. The role of graphic presentation is also considered in the design phase. Students also analyze the design of commercial web sites in developing an appreciation for visual impact and functionality in their own web pages.

Internship

Office Administration students have the opportunity to apply classroom learning to the workplace. Through an optional internship, students can gain experiential learning during their final term.

This internship opportunity provides up to 180 hours of practice office experience. Students have access to Lambton College's co-op and career advisors who provide comprehensive co-op and career development services and resources for students eligible for internship.

Both Internship and Co-op are competitive – the employer makes all the decisions; students are not placed into opportunities.

Skill Demands

Students must be able to use a keyboard and other computer-related equipment. Students may also be required to sit for extended periods of time. If you are an adult learner looking to get ahead by refreshing your basic math skills or computer skills, please contact Academic Upgrading.

Mac Users

Please be aware that students in this program cannot use Macbooks - a Macbook is not an acceptable alternative laptop option.

Technology Requirements

It is recommended that students purchase a laptop with a Windows operating system.

Internet Speed Requirements

For best performance for students learning remotely, an internet connection with a minimum of 40 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speed is recommended in order to effectively use video conferencing and remote lecture delivery software as well as, other online resources remotely. Due to the large area over which students may be dispersed, we are unable to recommend a specific provider, so you will need to inquire around your area to find one that best suits your needs.

Minimum Laptop Requirements

In order to access the internet and virtually-delivered software and courseware, student laptops should include the following at a minimum. By meeting the following specifications, students will be equipped to access software and courseware on their laptop through the internet:

  • Intel i5 8th Gen Processor or equivalent
  • 16 GB of RAM (with a minimum of 8 GB)
  • 100 GB HDD or more
  • HD Graphics
  • Webcam with a microphone
  • Wireless 802.11n/ac 5ghz capable
  • Windows Operating System (Windows 11)

To ensure students are getting the most our of their classroom experience, some software will be required.

Lambton College has made this software easily accessible online. Students can leverage our Microsoft Office 365 software packages and services. In addition, much of the software you require for your courses will be available on demand for use on any device - on or off campus.
