Program Information

This Board of Governors certificate will provide you with the theoretical and practical knowledge using simulated case studies to prepare you for a future in medical transcription. This program has several prerequisites. Students are advised that each transcription course will require in excess of eight hours of work per week. These changes are being made to better prepare students for the workload later in the certificate and to help the student develop the highest level transcription skills that are required in the industry. A total of 14 courses are required to obtain this certificate.

Admission Requirements

O.S.S.D. or equivalent

Students are required to have a typing speed of 30 net wpm. Students who are interested in increasing their net typing speed and accuracy can take CPT-1133 Keyboarding for Computers.

Mature applicants must be at least 19 years of age by the start of classes, be out of secondary school for at least one year and usually do not have a high school diploma. Mature applicant testing for this program is available in the Counselling Department in the subjects of English and Math. The test(s) will demonstrate proficiency in required admission subjects. For more information please contact the Counselling Department at ext 3412. Academic admission requirements can be obtained through Academic Upgrading and Pre-Programs at Lambton College.

Applications for this program are not accepted through ontariocolleges.ca.

If you are taking part-time courses with the intention of completing a program and earning a credential, you must meet Admission Requirements outlined on the program page. It is the student's responsibility to supply proof of admission requirements to the Office of the Registrar before he/she has completed three courses in the program.

If you do complete the program and do not have the appropriate admission requirements, you will be ineligible to receive your certificate or diploma.

If you believe you have an equivalent level of knowledge and would like credit for Prior Learning Assessment, please contact Counselling at 519-479-1023 at least two weeks before classes begin.
