Lambton College to Host Formal In-Person Convocation Celebration with Special Guest Dr. Michel Haddad

SARNIA, April 25, 2022 –Lambton College is excited to announce that after two years, graduates will once again walk across a stage to accept their hard-earned diploma.

Organizers of this year’s event are thrilled to be able to welcome the Class of 2022 back to a traditional, in-person ceremony.

The formal celebration, set to welcome upwards of 600 graduates, will take place at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena on Wednesday, June 8.

The College is also thrilled to announce that Dr. Michel Haddad, a critical-care physician and Chief of Staff at Bluewater Health has accepted an invitation to serve as this year’s convocation speaker.

“Dr. Haddad has been a provincial and national leader and an exceptional community proponent throughout the pandemic,” said Rob Kardas, President & CEO, Lambton College. “His steadfast leadership has helped the College protect our collective health and safety and preserve our on-campus experience, and we couldn’t think of anybody more fitting to address the Class of 2022.”

The College plans to present Dr. Haddad with an Honourary Diploma in Health Care Management & Leadership Development.

A post-ceremony celebration is also being planned by the Lambton College Community Engagement team. Following the traditional ceremony, the festivities will continue for graduates and their guests with treats such as live music, local food trucks, and specially curated gift for each graduate on behalf of the Alumni Association.

"Convocation is a major milestone for our students and something they look forward to from the moment they step on campus. Accepting their diploma in front of their family, friends and peers is a very special moment,” says Kardas. “Watching them cross the stage for the first time since June 2019 will unforgettable.”

While many post-secondary institutions opted to host virtual ceremonies throughout the pandemic, Lambton made headlines in 2020 and 2021 with their unique convocation parade, which featured live music, special guest speakers, a stunning sparkular show, and a parade route lined with staff and faculty.

Details of the event are still being finalized as the College works to confirm capacity limits, safety protocols, and other important factors. The College will continue to prioritize the health, safety and wellbeing of the entire community, and will adhere to all guidance from public health agencies and government to limit the spread of COVID-19.

A live stream of the entire ceremony will also be provided for students and their families who aren’t able to participate in person.
