Designed with the working Registered Practical Nurse in mind, this bridging program builds upon theoretical knowledge and refreshes technical skills to allow graduates to transition to the roles and responsibilities of an RN.
The Registered Practical Nursing Bridging to Honours Bachelor of Science - Nursing Degree Program is designed for practicing Registered Practical Nurses seeking to advance their education and career. Building on the foundational knowledge and skills acquired through the Practical Nursing program. This full-time program offers a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for the demands of professional RN practice.
While some first-year courses offer flexible delivery options—including in-person/on-campus, online, and hybrid formats—the overall structure requires consistent engagement and dedication in a full time academic status.
Upon entering the second year, students integrate into the third year of the Honours Bachelor of Science - Nursing Degree program and continue through to completion. The fourth year is delivered entirely in-person at Lambton College or through Clinical Placement, ensuring hands-on experience and professional readiness.
This program is accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN), the national accrediting body for nursing education in Canada. This accreditation confirms that the programs meet high standards of quality and prepare graduates for professional nursing practice.

Admission Requirements
- Must be a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario and must be in good standing
- Must have an overall average of B (73% - 75%) with no failures in core nursing courses of the Practical Nursing program (doesn't include General Education Electives)
Training Requirements
Students entering this program are required to have Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Gentle Persuasive Approach training before beginning their studies.

Travel Expenses
Students are responsible for independently arranging and funding their transportation to and from all clinical placements (e.g., fuel, parking, transit, accommodation, if required).
Technology Requirements
In order to keep pace with the requirements of each and every course in your program, Lambton College requires that each student have access to a laptop while studying at our college.
Labs & Equipment
Microbiology Lab
Laboratory exercises complement theoretical concepts and develop good, safe, laboratory practices through hands-on activities and chemical experimentation.
Simulation Lab
This lab provides a simulated environment where students can learn and practice multiple skills and clinical situations. Students use high-fidelity mannequins in scenario-based learning. With videotaping capabilities, students can debrief and reflect on their experiences.

Students are required to take non-core (non-nursing related) courses through OntarioLearn. Please be sure to check your Program Map on your mylambton homepage in order to determine which level of course you are required to take - degree level or degree level advanced.
Progression Requirements
Students considering the Bachelor of Science - Nursing program, should be aware that there are minimum grade requirements in order to pass courses within this program.
A passing grade of 65% is required for all core nursing courses with the exception of:
- PSYC-1403 Development Across the Lifespan
- Courses offered only through OntarioLearn

Employment Opportunities
Registered Nurses have many career options open to them as they are prepared to care for individuals, families, and communities in varied settings. Our graduates assume roles as clinical practitioners, health program and policy developers, researchers, administrators and teachers. Careers can be found in hospitals, community health agencies, public health units, government health agencies and public and private corporations in both urban and rural settings.
Completion of Lambton College's BSNB - RPN Bridging to Honours BScN degree is recognized by several post-secondary institutions across Canada as an approved pre-requisite program to pursue graduate education at a Master's level.
Accreditations & Certifications
Registered Nurse Licensing
The completion of a BSNB degree prepares you for obtaining licensure as a Registered Nurse. Upon completion of the program, students will complete the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses) registration exam and a jurisprudence exam in the province, territory or state in which you choose to work.
These exams cost an estimated $1,000.
As part of the registration process with the College of Nurses Ontario, the Jurisprudence exam is also required.
The exam cost an estimated $40.00.
If the jurisprudence exam has been completed in the last 5 years with RExPN the jurisprudence exam may be accepted by the College of Nurses Ontario.
Master's Degree
Students may pursue a Master's degree in nursing or a related field at any university of their choosing.
In order to pursue a Master's degree, you must obtain a minimum of 70% - 75% average in your Bachelor's degree work to be considered for entry to a Master's program.
Placement
- You’ll complete a placement as part of this program, giving you the chance to apply what you learn in a real-world setting. This hands-on experience helps you build practical skills, explore your career interests, and gain experience valued by employers.
Placement Requirements
All placements have requirements that must be completed before you begin. These typically include a Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector and proof of immunizations.

Technology Requirements
It is recommended that you use a Windows laptop for your coursework. While other devices like MacBooks or Chromebooks might work for some tasks, they may not support all the software required for your program. If you're unsure, check with your professors before buying.
Internet Speed Requirements
To get the best experience while learning online, we recommend having an internet connection with at least 40 Mbps download speed and 10 Mbps upload speed. This will help you use video calls, attend online lectures, and access other learning tools smoothly.
Because students live in many different areas, we can't suggest a specific internet provider. You'll need to check with local companies to find one that works best for you.
Laptop Requirements
In order to access the internet and virtually-delivered software and courseware, student laptops should include the following at a minimum. By meeting the following specifications, students will be equipped to access software and courseware on their laptop through the internet:
- Intel i5 8th Gen Processor or equivalent
- 8GB of RAM
- 100 GB HDD or more
- Webcam with a microphone
- Wi-Fi capable (802.11n/ac 5GHz)
- Windows 11 operating system
Mobile Device
Students will require a mobile device (smartphone) for:
- Accessing your digital student ID
- Using campus applications and services
Software
To ensure students are getting the most our of their classroom experience, some software will be required.
Lambton College has made this software easily accessible online. Students can leverage our Microsoft Office 365 software packages and services. In addition, much of the software you require for your courses will be available on demand for use on any device - on or off campus.
