SARNIA, February 24, 2026 – Lambton College will welcome elite firefighters from across Ontario this July 17-19 as it hosts the Western Ontario Regional FireFit Championship, a high-intensity competition that showcases the strength, endurance, and technical skill required in firefighting.
The championship will transform Lambton College’s campus into a dynamic competition venue, drawing top competitors, industry partners, and spectators from across the region. FireFit events simulate real-world emergency scenarios in a fast-paced, spectator-friendly format, with athletes racing through stair climbs, hose advances, equipment carries, and victim rescues.
For Lambton College students, particularly those in Fire programs, the event represents more than competition.
“This championship brings the firefighting profession to life on our campus,” said Rob Kardas, President & CEO of Lambton College. “Hosting an event of this calibre reflects our commitment to hands-on training, industry collaboration, and preparing students for impactful careers in our communities.”
The nationally renowned Lambton College FireFit team will enter the 2026 season looking to build on an impressive 2025 where they captured 36 medals. This count included seven medals at the Canadian National and World Championships, where Lambton’s top female athlete Keira Adams finished 5th overall in Women’s Individual Races and took home the prestigious Rookie of The Year Award. In addition, the women’s team won gold in Relay and Team Time competitions, setting two national records. The men’s team placed second in Relay while setting the new college national record.
“FireFit is a huge part of my life, and I see it as preparation for serving my community in my future career,” said Keira Adams. “The whole team is going to be so excited to compete on the Lambton College campus. We’ll be training hard to make the Sarnia-Lambton community proud.”
As preparations move forward, Lambton College is inviting community partners to play a visible role in the championship. Event sponsorship opportunities offer organizations a chance to align with a high-profile event and demonstrate support for first responders, community safety, and student training. There are also sponsorship opportunities available for organizations looking to support the Lambton College FireFit team in what is sure to be an exciting 2026 campaign.
The championship weekend will include a corporate challenge, where teams from local organizations will have the opportunity to take on the FireFit course and compete in what is frequently called the toughest two minutes in sports. Registration for the corporate challenge is currently open.
“This event is a celebration of public safety professionals, the next generation of firefighters, and our community,” said Kardas. “We are proud to open our campus to our region and to collaborate with partners who share our commitment to student and community success.”
The Western Ontario FireFit Championship will take place in July 17-19, 2026. More information on the event, corporate challenge, and sponsorship opportunities can be found on the Lambton College website.
