SARNIA, June 23, 2026 – Construction of Lambton College’s new student residence reached a significant milestone as partners, project leaders, and College representatives gathered to mark the completion of the building’s structural frame with a traditional topping off ceremony.
The ceremony, held nearly one year after the official groundbreaking, celebrated the completion of the roof structure and featured a ceremonial tree atop the building, a longstanding construction tradition symbolizing growth, safety, and a successful build.
Representatives from Lambton College, Tilbury Properties Corporation (Tilbury), and Ball Construction were joined on site to recognize the progress made on the College’s largest capital project to date, being delivered through a public-private partnership (P3) with Tilbury and Fengate Asset Management (Fengate).
“This milestone represents the continued momentum behind a project that will have a lasting impact on our students and campus community,” said Rob Kardas, President & CEO, Lambton College. “Each step forward brings us closer to providing a modern, supportive living environment where students can connect, grow, and fully engage in the Lambton College experience.”
The event included remarks from Michael Kaye, Partner, Tilbury Properties Corporation, Jason Ball, President, Ball Construction, Rob Ellis, Founder of MySafeWork, and Kardas.
Ellis spoke to the importance of safety in construction, as well as the critical role of strong leadership in delivering complex projects. He recognized the leadership demonstrated across the partnership, project team, and College.
Since breaking ground in June 2025, construction has progressed steadily through the collaboration of Tilbury, Fengate, and Ball Construction, alongside a broader team of partners working to bring the residence to life. The new facility will provide purpose-built housing designed to enhance the student experience and support Lambton College’s continued growth in domestic enrolment.
Once complete, the residence will offer students a vibrant, connected living environment that fosters community, engagement, and academic success.
The new student residence remains on track to open in September 2027, coinciding with Lambton College’s 60th anniversary.
