Program Code: EMER (Part-Time) Awarded Upon Completion: Ontario College Certificate

The Emergency Communications Ontario College Certificate program provides practical training for individuals who are employed or seek to be employed in the public or private sector as a member of a team engaged in emergency communication services. Students learn the principles and skills necessary to react competently and effectively in dealing with the public and with emergency services personnel during routine and crisis situations. This knowledge, combined with practical case-based training, will give graduates the competencies, skills and confidence to perform in stressful situations.

Students must complete a field placement component in order to meet graduation requirements.

Agencies require students to have a clear police record to engage in field placement.

Admission Requirements

O.S.S.D. or equivalent with:

Mature applicants must be at least 19 years of age by the start of classes, be out of secondary school for at least one year and usually do not have a high school diploma. Mature applicant testing for this program is available in the Counselling Department in the subject of English. The test(s) will demonstrate proficiency in required admission subjects. Applications for this program are not accepted through ontariocolleges.ca.

Employment Opportunities

This program may assist successful graduates in preparing to seek employment opportunities in positions such as, but not limited to, emergency telecommunicators, dispatchers and call facilitators in police, fire, ambulance, petrochemical industries and hospitals.

Online course choices will have added software fees and book costs are not included in course fees unless otherwise stated.
