Lambton College partners with Liricco Technologies Ltd. to develop a new Android app for green-energy technology

June 26, 2014

Sarnia, ON, June 26, 2014 -- Lambton College is pleased to announce they have partnered with global startup Liricco Technologies Ltd. to develop a new Android application for the company’s Valta line of energy products. The Valta line is a remote energy management system developed by Liricco that can detect standby power, identify waste, and notify users to help them save energy. Currently, only IOS-based smartphone control applications exist for this green-energy technology. With operations in Ontario, U.S.A. and Hong Kong, Liricco hopes the commercialization of this new application will allow them to expand into the European smartphone market, which is currently dominated by Android-based devices.

Lambton College has an extensive history in the field of technology research and has recently focused their efforts on diversifying their research portfolio. The College currently has the capabilities to develop Android applications and hopes this inaugural project will open the door for future application development partnerships.

“This is a ground breaking project for Lambton College. Our students will be applying the College's Android development expertise to a well-defined project straight out of the energy management industry,” says Mehdi Sheikhzadeh, Dean, Applied Research & Innovation, Lambton College. “Research partnerships between businesses and the College are a win-win experience. Businesses are able to develop products and services for commercialization to increase profitability, while the College is able to provide students and faculty with experiential learning opportunities.”

The project has received $45,000 in funding through the Ontario Centre of Excellence (OCE) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada. Both organizations work directly with colleges to identify innovations that will drive the commercialization of products with high potential for income-generating sales. Liricco has contributed an additional $30,000 to the project.

“Liricco Technologies is looking forward to working with Lambton College to expand our Valta product experience to a much greater base as we move into Android development,” says Jeff Lin, Executive Director, Liricco Technologies Ltd.
