Lambton College hosts eighth annual Empty Bowls event to end hunger

SARNIA, January 27, 2015 – – In an effort to raise awareness of all the empty bowls in the world, Lambton College is once again inviting the community to enjoy a simple meal of bread and soup in a handmade pottery bowl.

On Tuesday, February 3, 2015, Lambton College will host their eighth annual Empty Bowls fundraiser to help end hunger in the Sarnia-Lambton community.

For the cost of $25, guests can enjoy a simple meal of soup and bread, served in a pottery bowl of their choice to take home. More than 400 bowls have been handcrafted for the event in the college’s on-site pottery studio by Lambton College students and staff, and members of the Sarnia-Lambton Potters Guild. Local celebrities have also tried their hand at bowl-making and their creative attempts will be available for purchase during the event by donation. A variety of local artists have also donated pieces that will be raffled off while The Olde Crusty Minstrels will once again be providing the musical entertainment.

The fundraiser will take place at the Lambton College Event Centre with two seatings available at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Inn of the Good Shepherd, Lambton College’s Counselling Department, or online at theinnsarnia.ca. Seats are limited, so advanced purchase is encouraged.

Empty Bowls has raised over $60,000 to date for the Inn of the Good Shepherd and the college’s campus Food Bank. Generous support and donations from the local businesses and the community ensure that 99 per cent of the funds raised from this event go directly to fighting hunger.

Created in the early eighties by a high school ceramics class in Michigan, Empty Bowls events have since been held across North America and the world raising millions in funds and awareness for those who go hungry.
