SARNIA, October 30, 2015 – A $2 million financial donation to Lambton College on behalf of NOVA Chemicals will help fund a new Health & Research Centre.

The donation, announced today during an event hosted by The Lambton College Foundation, is the single largest educational investment ever made by the local industrial manufacturer.

The money will be used primarily to fund construction of the College’s future building and includes the corporate naming rights to the newly titled NOVA Chemicals Health & Research Centre.

Tom Thompson, Regional Manufacturing Director, NOVA Chemicals said the company is pleased to take a leadership position as an industrial partner for such an important community initiative.

“We are very pleased to support Lambton College and the Sarnia-Lambton community as a whole through our donation to the Envision Tomorrow Capital Campaign,” said Thompson. “Our $2 Million donation will be directed toward the establishment of the new NOVA Chemicals Health & Research Centre. NOVA Chemicals has enjoyed a longstanding partnership, actively investing in Lambton College’s students and graduates over the years. We recognize and are eager to see the benefits that the new Centre will have in the community.”

With close to 1000 employees, NOVA Chemicals is one of the region’s largest industrial companies and has a longstanding partnership with Lambton College. Since 2008, the company has supported 224 co-op students from the College and hired 118 graduates.

“Lambton College has been working with NOVA Chemicals for many, many years and we’re thankful for the tremendous employment opportunities they have provided for both students and graduates,” said Judith Morris, President & CEO, Lambton College. “This donation is an extraordinary tribute to our collaborative partnership and a huge investment in both health science education and in the well-being of our community.”

The new sponsorship is part of The Lambton College Foundation’s Envision Tomorrow Capital Campaign, which launched in June 2015. Established to specifically enhance academic programming, student athletic needs, and applied research opportunities, the campaign has a strong focus on infrastructure, including the construction of two new campus buildings – the highly anticipated and newly named NOVA Chemicals Health & Research Centre and a new Fitness & Recreation Complex. The campaign will also support an Equipment Renewal Program that will expand student and community capacity for experiential learning and corporate training.

Shortly after launching the campaign, Lambton College received $20 million in joint funding from the Governments of Canada and Ontario through the Small Communities Fund. Lambton County Council has also committed $5 Million to the Envision Tomorrow Capital Campaign.

To date, the campaign has reached $33.3 million of its $45 million goal.
