Lambton College’s Women’s Basketball team names new head coach

SARNIA, March 14, 2017 – The Lambton Lions Women’s basketball team has named a new head coach.

John Faragher, Coordinator, Athletics at Lambton College recently announced that Kendel Ross has accepted the position as head coach for the 2017/2018 season.

Ross, a Sarnia native, has experience on the court, as both a player and a coach. In addition to playing for the University of Dayton, Ohio, Ross has also played with various levels of the Canadian National team, including a trip to the World Qualifiers held in Mexico in 2013. She also played professional stints in Portugal and Spain, taking home League Most Valuable Player honours for both teams.

A graduate of Northern Collegiate, the 28-year-old also started an off-season program for high school athletes and was selected as an assistant coach by Team Ontario for the 2017 season.

Ross says she’s excited to get to know her new team and to step into such an important role in her hometown.

“It means a great deal to me to bring my experience back to the community and give back to the place that supported me throughout my basketball career,” she says. “I’m excited to take the foundation that has been built by previous coaches and make Lambton College a recognized and intimidating opponent.”

No stranger to Lambton College, Ross has been teaching a variety of courses ranging from anatomy and physiology to student success and life skills for the past year. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Education and Allied Professions and a Masters of Science in Education and Health Sciences, both from University of Dayton.

“We look forward to having Kendel on board at Lambton College,” says Faragher. “Her experience as both a player and a coach will play a key role in helping our athletes grow both as individuals and as a team. We look forward to watching the women’s team develop under her leadership.”
