WHEN: 2 p.m., Saturday, June 9 (pre-ceremony interviews 1:15 p.m. in the Lambton College boardroom)

WHERE: Progressive Auto Sales Arena

WHAT: Members of the media are invited to join Judith Morris, President & CEO, Lambton College, along with other College representatives as they honour the achievements of this year’s graduating class during the 51st annual Convocation ceremony.

The official ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9 at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena. A variety of personal touches have been incorporated into this year’s event, including a custom ordered gown for one graduating student’s service dog.

Paralympic athlete Tyler McGregor is this year’s featured guest speaker. McGregor, who hails from Forest, Ont., was diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma, a form of soft tissue cancer, early in his hockey career. The diagnosis resulted in eight months of chemo therapy followed by the amputation of his left leg. While the ordeal ended McGregor’s stand-up hockey career, McGregor returned to the ice a year later, this time, on a sled. He’s been collecting medals representing Team Canada ever since, most recently taking home a silver from the 2018 Winter Paralympics in South Korea.

The following awards will also be announced during this year’s ceremony:

Alberto Fleman, Governor General’s Collegiate Bronze Medal
This award honours the student who graduates with the highest standing in her or his institution.

Dawson Nethercott, Alumni Leadership Award
This award honours students who exhibit leadership abilities, commitment, are involved in extra-curricular activities and contributes to the College and the community.

Dawson Nethercott, Board of Governors Award
