Lambton College Students Sizzle at High Steaks Veal Sandwich Competition

SARNIA, February 27, 2019 – Lambton College has proven to be a cut above the competition when it comes to serving up culinary arts.

In a weekend showcase sponsored by the Veal Farmers of Ontario, two Lambton College Culinary Management students claimed the competition’s top honour of Ontario’s Best Veal Sandwich.

Students Clarisse Gibbons and Jacob Douglas participated in the event, which took place at the Restaurants Canada Food Show in Toronto. The competition saw students enrolled in Culinary-related programs across the province race against the clock in a high “steaks” challenge to produce Ontario’s Best Veal Sandwich.

The live contest was hosted by John Catucci from the Food Network’s “You Gotta Eat Here” and was judged by a panel of industry chefs and other culinary professionals. The winning creation was judged in taste and preparation, taking into account each team’s use of Ontario-raised, grain- fed veal, breading flavour, tomato sauce, the bread or bun used, and any additional toppings.

In a job well-done, Gibbons and Douglas tempted the judges’ taste buds to take the top spot, earning them a $1000 prize, and the honour of branding Lambton College home of the province’s Best Veal Sandwich.

Those interested in sampling the award-winning sandwich for themselves are invited to stop by the College’s Creation’s Bistro, where the Culinary Management students will be offering a replica of the award-winning veal sandwich.

Creations Bistro is an applied learning environment utilized by Culinary Management and Hospitality - Culture, Leadership & Operations programs. The Bistro is open for lunch service every Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. For more information go to lambtoncollege.ca/creations.

Students interested in Lambton College’s Culinary Management program will also have the opportunity to learn how to make (and taste) the same sandwich during the College’s annual Spring Open House taking place from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 30.
