Back to Back National Championships for Enactus Lambton

May 9, 2019

SARNIA, May 9, 2019. Update: May 10, 9:00 A.M.– For the second year in a row, Enactus Lambton has been crowned best in Canada.

The College’s world-cup winning student group is celebrating back-to-back victories after being named National Champions at the 2019 Enactus National Exposition earlier today in Vancouver.

After claiming championship titles in both the Scotiabank Environmental Challenge and the TD Entrepreneurship Challenge, the team faced off against Nova Scotia’s St. Mary’s University, and Ontario universities Ryerson and Wilfred Laurier in a final round of competition to win the National award.

The Lambton College team competed against more than 60 colleges and universities from across the country to take the top spot.

The three-day event welcomed more than 1,200 delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs as they showcased their community outreach projects and business ventures through rounds of live competition.

The Enactus Lambton team wowed the judges, and their competition, for their work transforming rural villages in Zambia through their innovative One Seed Project.

Through rounds of live presentations, the students outlined how Enactus Lambton was able to train 175 Zambian trainers to empower over 35,000 farmers this year alone.

Additionally, the project expanded to include the installation of solar drip irrigation systems at schools in Zambia, providing a varied diet to students using clean, solar energy. The drip irrigation systems are helping feed 750 children in the 2nd most undernourished country in the world, while also providing access to clean water.

“I am extremely proud of the outstanding projects being led by the students and faculty advisor involved with Enactus Lambton,” says Judith Morris, President & CEO, Lambton College. “These young leaders are truly driving global change through innovation, entrepreneurship, and a commitment to building stronger communities around the globe. To witness them compete on the national level, defeating other colleges and universities from all over the country, and to watch them win a national championship for the second year in a row, is a truly exceptional experience.”

Their national title has earned the Enactus Lambton team a return ticket to the Enactus World Exposition where they will have an opportunity to defend their World Cup. The team will head to San Jose, California in September to compete against 36 other countries. They remain the first college to represent Canada at this event since the organization’s inception.
