Lambton College Celebrates Class of 2022 with Traditional, In-Person Ceremony

SARNIA, June 8, 2021 – It was a moment students had waited more than two years for.

On Wednesday, June 8, Lambton College celebrated its 55th Annual Convocation with a traditional ceremony honouring the achievements of the Class of 2022 – a historical cohort of 1,600 strong and determined students.

The energy was palpable as nearly 650 Lambton College graduates entered the Progressive Auto Sales Arena, excited to cross the stage to accept their hard-earned diplomas – in person!

Dr. Michel Haddad, a critical-care physician and Chief of Staff at Bluewater Health delivered this year’s keynote. After being presented with an Honourary Diploma in Health Care Management & Leadership Development, Dr. Haddad proudly declared himself as an honourary member of the graduating class.

“I think it’s fair to say that we are not only the Class of 2022, but the Class of COVID-19,” he said, expressing his own apologies for the experiences, opportunities and fun that students missed out on in the face of pandemic restrictions.

“But I’m also confident that you will come to see that you’ve gained something else,” he claimed. “I’d like to suggest that you are stronger, more determined and resilient, and perhaps even more grateful than previous classes, because of your experiences living and studying through these exceptional times.”

In his first convocation address as President & CEO, Rob Kardas encouraged graduates to forget about expectations, and rather, draw on everything they had learned throughout the pandemic that propelled them to success in their studies.

“I just watched you cross your Convocation stage knowing that in these unbelievable times, you started changing the world with the actions you took every day,” he told the Class of 2022. “I stand here knowing that you will continue to do so as you go out into our community with your education, skills, and the invaluable ability to do what needs to be done, come what may.”

Three students were honoured with awards at this year’s ceremony:

Governor General’s Academic Medal Award - Laura Seys, Esthetician

  • This award honours the student who graduates with the highest standing in her or his institution.

Alumni Association Leadership Award – Carlie Duncan, Occupational Therapist Assistant & Physiotherapist Assistant
