Message from Lambton College Board Chair – Janice McMichael-Dennis: President & CEO Judith Morris to Postpone Retirement

As Lambton College continues to navigate the evolving Covid-19 situation, I’m pleased to announce that President & CEO Judith Morris has agreed to postpone her retirement, until the end of June 2021.

This will allow the College Board and involved staff time to channel attention and resources to guiding the College through the current situation, while we search for a new President.

When President Morris announced her retirement, in February, a key factor in her decision was that the timing was right for Lambton.

In an effort to maintain consistency during the implementation of our pandemic and recovery plan, it would be optimal for the college to do this with the dedicated leadership of our current President, who will now see the College through the coming academic cycle.

On behalf of the entire Board of Governors, I would like to congratulate Judith Morris and her team for their exceptional leadership and communication during these unprecedented times. As a result of their extraordinary work, The Board is confident Lambton College will successfully emerge from this situation in the best possible position.

Message from Lambton College Board Chair – Janice McMichael-Dennis: Presidential Selection Committee

I am pleased to share with you that the Presidential Selection Committee has retained the services of Phelps Executive Search to assist with our CEO search selection efforts. This decision was reached after extensive research and meeting with potential partners.

Phelps has extensive experience in providing a complete range of human capital programs and services. They understand the demands, complexity and future trends impacting leadership of academic institutions. They have an outstanding track record leading Presidential searches at other Canadian academic institutions, including Centennial College, George Brown College, Fleming College, Sheridan, and most recently, Niagara College. I feel like we are in good hands to assist us with this monumental task.

One of Phelps initial tasks will be assisting in the creation of a leadership profile for the President of Lambton College. This essentially means we will create an overview of attributes and qualities that we want to see in our new CEO. The input of the Lambton College community will be essential to ensure a clear understanding of the unique values that embody our Lambton culture. As such, a survey will be sent to all employees, and interviews will be arranged with key internal representatives and the wider external College community to provide input to help this important process.

The Lambton College Board of Governors is committed to ensuring transparency, and will be providing regular updates via the Presidential Search website as we progress through the selection process. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me personally at any time with any questions. I can be reached at

Message from Chair Re CEO Retirement and Recruitment

By now, you will have heard Judy’s announcement of her pending retirement. If you’re like me, this was both happy and sad news, happy for her next adventure but sad for her to leave us. I have said it before and I will say it again, Judy is truly one of the very best leaders I have ever had the privilege of working with. She is truly an outstanding individual and we at Lambton College will be forever touched by her tenure.

I wanted to take a moment to let you know that we will set-up a webpage to keep our College Community informed as we move through the recruitment and selection process. This process will be guided by principles that align with the College’s people plan while incorporating best practices in human resources and recruitment. The Board of Governors has now constituted a Presidential Selection Committee to help guide us through this task. I am honoured to Chair this Committee, which also includes our two Vice-Chairs of the Board, Mike Lapaine and Barry Hogan.

As a first step, the Board has made the decision to utilize a third party recruitment firm in our efforts. We will also be assisted by staff, in particular David McLean, Director of People and Organizational Development. To be clear, internal candidates interested in the CEO position are welcome and encouraged to apply. The Presidential Selection Committee will also look for stakeholder input into the development of a leadership profile; identify and recruit qualified candidates; and assist with candidate evaluation and selection.

In an effort to provide our community and stakeholders with information as the Presidential Search progresses, we will be posting updates and messages to staff. If you have any questions, please contact or
