Message from Lambton College Board Chair – Janice McMichael-Dennis: Presidential Search Update

Hello to our Lambton College Community.

I just wanted to take a moment to provide a brief update on the Board of Governors' CEO recruitment efforts.

As you know, our Presidential Search Committee has been working with our external recruitment firm Phelps for many months. We have put significant effort into this task because we recognize that it is absolutely critically important that we get this right.

I am very pleased to say that we have made tremendous progress and are in the final stage of this initiative. The process, as you may recall, started with extensive consultations with all stakeholders because we wanted to ensure we knew what YOU wanted in your leader. Once we had this information in hand we then considered almost 400 potential candidates for the role. This effort has included many interviews, presentations, consultations, and meetings. We have truly given this task the full attention that it so rightfully deserved.

I am very happy to say that we are now at the very final step and are on track to announce our results within the next month. I am looking forward to sharing more details with the Lambton College Community by March 1.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time at

Thank you for your patience and please stay well,

    Janice McMichael-Dennis
Chair, Lambton College Board of Governors

Message from Lambton College Board Chair – Janice McMichael-Dennis: Presidential Search Update

I wanted to take a moment to update our College community on the status of our search for a new President and CEO. The Presidential Search Committee has continued to meet over the last few months to move this search along. I am happy to say that together with our external recruitment firm (Phelps Executive Search Solutions) we did develop a very comprehensive brief for any potential candidates to consider. The process was greatly aided by the consultative process undertaken with a broad cross-section of both the Lambton community and our external stakeholders. This comprehensive input process was critical to our understanding of what you need in your next President and CEO role and we sincerely thank you for your involvement.

With this information in hand, Phelps were highly successful in their outreach and we have interest from excellent candidates both locally and across the country. We are continuing with our next steps and will engage in interviews over the next month.

Although we know Judy leaves unbelievably big shoes to fill, we are very hopeful as we move into our final stages of recruitment.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me personally at if you have any comments.

I wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and am looking forward to a bright 2021.

Message from Lambton College Board Chair – Janice McMichael-Dennis: Presidential Selection Committee

I’m pleased to share that, following extensive consultations with the Lambton College community in cooperation with Phelps, The Lambton College Board of Governors has completed a mandate and a job advertisement for the next leader of Lambton College.

Over the last few months, the Board reached out to College community members and Sarnia-Lambton community stakeholders to help define the unique qualities and values that embody Lambton culture. The response to the online survey was exceptional, with all employee groups participating. Phelps also conducted many meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

A sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in this important process. The input and feedback you provided was invaluable in shaping the mandate approved by the Board. The posting for our new President is available through this link.

Message from Lambton College Board Chair – Janice McMichael-Dennis: President & CEO Judith Morris to Postpone Retirement

As Lambton College continues to navigate the evolving Covid-19 situation, I’m pleased to announce that President & CEO Judith Morris has agreed to postpone her retirement, until the end of June 2021.

This will allow the College Board and involved staff time to channel attention and resources to guiding the College through the current situation, while we search for a new President.

When President Morris announced her retirement, in February, a key factor in her decision was that the timing was right for Lambton.

In an effort to maintain consistency during the implementation of our pandemic and recovery plan, it would be optimal for the college to do this with the dedicated leadership of our current President, who will now see the College through the coming academic cycle.

On behalf of the entire Board of Governors, I would like to congratulate Judith Morris and her team for their exceptional leadership and communication during these unprecedented times. As a result of their extraordinary work, The Board is confident Lambton College will successfully emerge from this situation in the best possible position.

Message from Lambton College Board Chair – Janice McMichael-Dennis: Presidential Selection Committee

I am pleased to share with you that the Presidential Selection Committee has retained the services of Phelps Executive Search to assist with our CEO search selection efforts. This decision was reached after extensive research and meeting with potential partners.

Phelps has extensive experience in providing a complete range of human capital programs and services. They understand the demands, complexity and future trends impacting leadership of academic institutions. They have an outstanding track record leading Presidential searches at other Canadian academic institutions, including Centennial College, George Brown College, Fleming College, Sheridan, and most recently, Niagara College. I feel like we are in good hands to assist us with this monumental task.

One of Phelps initial tasks will be assisting in the creation of a leadership profile for the President of Lambton College. This essentially means we will create an overview of attributes and qualities that we want to see in our new CEO. The input of the Lambton College community will be essential to ensure a clear understanding of the unique values that embody our Lambton culture. As such, a survey will be sent to all employees, and interviews will be arranged with key internal representatives and the wider external College community to provide input to help this important process.

The Lambton College Board of Governors is committed to ensuring transparency, and will be providing regular updates via the Presidential Search website as we progress through the selection process. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me personally at any time with any questions. I can be reached at

Message from Chair Re CEO Retirement and Recruitment

By now, you will have heard Judy’s announcement of her pending retirement. If you’re like me, this was both happy and sad news, happy for her next adventure but sad for her to leave us. I have said it before and I will say it again, Judy is truly one of the very best leaders I have ever had the privilege of working with. She is truly an outstanding individual and we at Lambton College will be forever touched by her tenure.

I wanted to take a moment to let you know that we will set-up a webpage to keep our College Community informed as we move through the recruitment and selection process. This process will be guided by principles that align with the College’s people plan while incorporating best practices in human resources and recruitment. The Board of Governors has now constituted a Presidential Selection Committee to help guide us through this task. I am honoured to Chair this Committee, which also includes our two Vice-Chairs of the Board, Mike Lapaine and Barry Hogan.

As a first step, the Board has made the decision to utilize a third party recruitment firm in our efforts. We will also be assisted by staff, in particular David McLean, Director of People and Organizational Development. To be clear, internal candidates interested in the CEO position are welcome and encouraged to apply. The Presidential Selection Committee will also look for stakeholder input into the development of a leadership profile; identify and recruit qualified candidates; and assist with candidate evaluation and selection.

In an effort to provide our community and stakeholders with information as the Presidential Search progresses, we will be posting updates and messages to staff. If you have any questions, please contact or
