• Strike Update

Vote Results

  • The faculty at Ontario's 24 colleges have voted not to accept Management's latest offer. These are not the results for which we had hoped, but we respect the decision faculty have made.

The colleges continued to explore settlement options right up to the start of voting. Unfortunately, we were unable to resolve the one principal area of difference between the colleges and the union. Today, the college bargaining team will be in touch with the provincially appointed mediator to seek his direction to the parties.

Right now, it means that the strike will continue. We don't know how much longer the strike will go on, but we will do everything possible to ensure students have the opportunity to be successful.

Your deans have been working diligently to develop contingency plans and to make sure you have the student services you may need to help you through this difficult time. Right now, fall term classes will be extended until Friday, December 22 and will resume on Tuesday, January 2.

Provincially, the colleges are working with the Ministry to establish a dedicated fund to support students who have experience financial hardship due to the strike. Details of this are still being finalized between the ministry and the colleges.

I realize how stressful and emotional this situation has been for everyone involved. While this is a provincial strike and there are many issues at hand, Lambton College is a community, and we will remain a community. We respect each other and are mutually committed to maintaining the academic integrity of every single one of our programs.

This strike has put all of us in uncharted territory. We are in an unprecedented situation that no Ontario College has dealt with before.

All strike updates will continue to be communicated as they happen via your college e-mail, on our social media channels and on this website.

As we work towards a solution to end the strike, I am confident we will all continue to display the same patience and support that we are known for at Lambton College.

    Sincerely,

    Judith Morris
    President & CEO, Lambton College
