    Placements

Benefits of Placement

  • Placements are a part of many programs at Lambton College in the areas of Community Services and Health Sciences, in particular. Students in these programs gain real-world experience while making strong connections and providing services to communities.

Placement providers also benefit greatly from having students complete placement hours at their organizations. Many organizations who have traditionally provided placement opportunities to Lambton College students, now rely on these placements to provide much needed services while at the same time giving students the practical experience they need to complete components of their program curriculum.

    Placement Story

Placement Provider - Big Brothers - Big Sisters of Sarnia-Lambton

Big Brothers - Big Sisters of Sarnia-Lambton is a great example of a partnership that has been developed over the years that benefits students and the Sarnia-Lambton community.

    • 15-20 Lambton College students placed in field placements or internships every year

    • Representing the Child & Youth Care, Social Service Worker and Office Administration programs

Without these students, the organization wouldn't be able to run their school-based programs which are the sole responsibility of students on placement. From camp registration to fundraising events to developing programming - this partnership is creating a much-needed service that benefits Lambton College and Big Brothers - Big Sisters but most importantly, the people in the Sarnia-Lambton Community.

  • Student Supervision

Students on placement are often alone and will not have faculty supervision. They will have continuous contact with their placement students throughout the process and are available to answer any questions or concerns.

    Preparing a Student for Placement

Before a student is approved for placement, they must:

    1. Complete a Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector and show proof of all necessary health immunizations.
    2. Complete training for AODA, WHMIS, Health & Safety, Sexual Assault & Sexual Violence, and Workplace Violence (in accordance with Bill 18)
    3. Complete CPR (HCP or Level C), First Aid, Mask Fit Testing, and Crisis Intervention Training – for some programs only

    Insurance Coverage

All unpaid field placement students are covered by WSIB or private insurance from the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities. Placement providers are required to sign a copy of the Letter to Placement Employer and return the signed copy to the College’s Field Clinical Coordinator. Lambton College will need to know if you carry WSIB or private insurance, as we match the type of provider to what you have when making a claim.

Should an incident or injury occur while the student is on placement, students are aware of the reporting procedures. It is their responsibility to reach out to their faculty supervisor.
