Loans & Privileges

  • Students & Employees

    • Students can borrow items from the Teaching & Learning Commons with their Lambton College ID card.
    • Full-time and part-time employees can use their Lambton College ID card to borrow items. If employees need to request a photo ID card, full-time employees can visit the Office of the Registrar and part-time employees can request a card from People and Organizational Development.

    Employees and students may borrow up to 10 books at one time and the Teaching & Learning Commons does not allow renewals of any materials.

    Members of the Community

    • Individuals from the community can access the Lambton College Teaching & Learning Commons by obtaining a Guest Patron Card for an annual fee of $10. 
    • Applications are approved week days between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and staff will contact the individual when processing is complete (usually within 24 hours)
    • Guest Patron Cards are good for one year from the date of issue and can be renewed by the Teaching & Learning Commons staff
    • High school and elementary school students are not entitled to apply for a Guest Patron Card
    • Guest Patron Card holders are responsible for all materials borrowed with their cards and if a card is lost, they should notify the Teaching & Learning Commons staff immediately

    Community users may borrow up to two (two-week loan) books at one time and the Teaching & Learning Commons does not allow renewals of any materials.

    Please Note: Circulation records are confidential and the Teaching & Learning Commons staff are not able to reveal titles or nature of the materials borrowed by anyone else. The staff will not knowingly check out materials to anyone except the card holder.

    The following materials are not available for loan and must be referenced in the Teaching & Learning Commons:

    • Newspapers and Magazines
    • Journals
    • Reference Materials
    • Educational Audio Visual Materials (these may be viewed in the Teaching & Learning Commons or booked for classroom use)

    Returning Materials

    All Teaching & Learning Commons materials may be returned by placing them in the Book Return slot located outside the Teaching & Learning Commons. Laptops and iPads are not available for loan in Fall 2020.

    Laptops and ipads must be returned in person, half an hour before the Teaching & Learning Commons closes.

    Overdue or Lost Materials

    The Teaching & Learning Commons staff will send an overdue notice via Lambton College email (students and employees) or by phone (community users).

    If the item is returned late, accumulated fines must be paid.

    If the item is not returned, a bill for replacement costs, accumulated fees and processing costs will be sent out.

    If the item is not returned, your student record will be affected. You won't be able to register for classes, receive transcripts or grades or apply to graduate until the bill is paid. Teaching & Learning Commons privileges will also be suspended. Community borrowers will also have their account suspended until the bill is paid.

    If an item is lost, you will be charged the replacement cost of the item, a processing fee and any accumulated fines.
