Policy

To provide expressions of sympathy on behalf of the College in the event of death of a College employee or retiree.

  1. The death of an employee or retiree if the college becomes aware will be officially recognized by Lambton College.
  2. This policy applies to all full-time, partial load and part-time employees and retirees.
  3. HR will request the flag(s) to be lowered from the date of announcement of the death of a current employee until the funeral or memorial service is held, unless this is a lengthy period (greater than three days), in which case the flag(s) will be lowered on date of announcement and again on a date of funeral or memorial service. The length of time can be amended at the discretion of the President and CEO.
  4. With permission from the family, notice will be provided to all employees from the Human Resources Department, including details of visitation, funeral date and time, where cards can be sent, etc.
  5. If a memorial bursary is requested to be established, two‐part cards will be printed (one part to go to the family and one part to accompany the donor cheque). These cards will be placed at the Funeral Home and will be available internally.
  6. A floral tribute will be sent by Human Resources Department from the College to the funeral home for a current employee and card from the President and CEO to the home of the next of kin. For a retiree death, a card will be sent to the next of kin from the President and CEO.
  7. No other memorials will be erected unless approved in writing by the President of Lambton College.
