Program Capabilities outline what skills students should possess as they progress through each term/year of their program.
Students and employers will find this information most useful and can reference either the list of skills or the full program capabilities document to ensure students are gaining the experience they need to fulfill the program requirements.
Upon Graduation
- Keyboarding at a minimum speed of 43 wpm using computer keyboarding software. The ability to key and set up letters, memos, tables, manuscripts and more professional documents such as newsletters using Microsoft at an intermediate level with an emphasis on proofreading.
- Additional computer applications using Windows 10, Excel for spreadsheet management and PowerPoint for presentations along with calendaring and scheduling using Outlook. Fundamental knowledge of OneNote and social media applications are also explored and practiced.
- Accounting for a small business including financial record keeping, preparation of financial statements for a sole proprietorship, completing the accounting cycle, banking activities and payroll.
- Business Mathematics with a knowledge of fractions, decimals, percentages, and basic general business functions.
- Internet research skills to conduct basic research, gathering information to compile comprehensive reports, Internet navigation abilities and other computer skills as required.
- Professional Office Skills with practical knowledge of the office environment, communication skills, telephone etiquette and techniques, records management, reprographics, mail handling, front desk coordinator duties, time management, agenda preparation and minute taking, business travel planning, professionalism in the office and teamwork skills.
- Business English Skills emphasizing grammar, the writing of memos, letters and short reports with research capabilities.
- Create a working portfolio that is interview-ready and includes a cover letter, resume, references, academic activities, certificates/awards, samples of work, community involvement and references.
