Program Information

Society's increased demand for health and fitness knowledge coupled with an aging yet active population makes the Fitness & Health Promotion Ontario College Diploma program at Lambton College the right choice for individuals looking to not only lead a healthy and active lifestyle but to help others do so as well.

Students gain knowledge, skills and the experience to prepare for careers working in the ever-changing health and fitness industry. Exercise science courses including anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, health and fitness assessment, exercise physiology, nutrition, personal training, exercise design and programming are coupled with courses designed to develop business and entrepreneurship knowledge as well as human relations skills.

Students also gain valuable experience during field placement within the fitness and lifestyle industry. Through a combination of theory, hands-on labs and practical experiences graduates are well prepared for this rewarding professional career.

Students entering this program are entering a Mobile Learning - Class+ Experience program. The Class+ Experience is exclusive to Lambton College, where technology inspires learning. Mobile devices allow students to experience learning both inside and outside the classroom, integrating educational apps and tools into class activities. See device requirements.

Admission Requirements

O.S.S.D. or equivalent, with:

Grade 12 English C or U
Grade 11 or 12 Biology C or U
-or-
Grade 12 Exercise Science (PSE4U)
-or-
Grade 12 Introductory Kinesiology (PSK4U) 

Mature applicants must be at least 19 years of age by the start of classes, be out of secondary school for at least one year and usually do not have a high school diploma. Mature applicant assessment for this program is available in the Counselling Department in the subject of English. The assessment will demonstrate proficiency in required admission subjects. For more information please contact the Counselling Department at ext 3412. Academic admission requirements can be obtained through Academic Upgrading and Pre-Programs at Lambton College.

Employment Opportunities


Our graduates will find enjoy fulfilling careers as fitness and health promoters. Career positions include public health consultants, fitness facility managers, personal trainers, recreation programming leaders, and sport program facilitators. Graduates with an entrepreneurial spirit may choose to be self-employed.
