More Information

Labour Market Info

According to the Canadian Occupational Projection System (COPS) from 2013 to 2022 the following labour market projections are forecasted for Recreational Therapist positions (NOC Code 3144) Canada-wide:

  • It is expected that a labour shortage will continue over the 2013 - 2022 period

Registration Designation

According to Therapeutic Recreation Ontario, the registration designation (R/TRO & R/TRO Dip) is currently a voluntary credential intended to recognize a level of excellence. It is anticipated that the Government of Ontario will move towards regulation of the profession. However, that is not expected to occur for a number of years.

When regulation does occur, the R/TRO Dip designation may represent the minimum criteria necessary. For the present, even though it is not provincially mandated, some employers do require R/TRO designation for hiring.
