Co-op Info

Co-op students have the opportunity to apply classroom learning to the workplace. Co-op placement opportunities help students gain valuable work experience that may assist them in finding permanent employment after they graduate. Students have access to our Co-op & Career Advisors who provide comprehensive co-op and career development services and resources for co-op students.

Co-op Eligibility (CPL-1049)

Students for this program are required to achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 by the beginning of term 3 when eligibility is determined by the co-op advisor.

To be considered eligible the following criteria must be met:

  • Overall GPA of 2.8 or greater
  • Passed all required courses to-date
  • Registered in current term courses
  • Fees paid in full

WIL Project Eligibility (CPL-5559)

If a student does not have a GPA of 2.8 or greater, he/she will be required to enroll in CPL-5559 WIL Project and will be charged an additional fee.

To be considered eligible, the following criteria must be met by the start of Term 3 when eligibility is determined:

  1. Overall GPA of 1.8 or greater
  2. No more than two outstanding courses in addition to WIL Project
    • These courses must be able to fit your WIL schedule conflict free
    • Courses scheduled back-to-back with your WIL shifts are considered in conflict
     
  3. Fees paid in full

Co-op Fees and Associated Costs

Students pay co-op fees in order to receive employment support services from Co-op & Career Advisors including co-op preparation workshops, one-on-one assistance and the opportunity to apply for co-op positions posted on the myCareer System.

Students are responsible for all personal costs, relocation costs, transportation arrangements to employment interviews and to the job site, and for living accommodations during co-op terms. Relocation to different cities in Canada is often required.

To qualify as a co-op credit the student must:

  • Complete of a minimum of 420 hours of full time co-op work over the four-month period in term 4
  • Full-time is defined by the Government of Canada as 30 hours of work per week or more
  • A maximum of 40 hours per week will be approved for co-op credits. Students may not submit overtime hours for their co-op credits
