Program Information

This Board of Governors Certificate is designed to improve the knowledge and skill levels of individuals working or wishing to work as estimators in the commercial construction industry. Individuals who previously learned estimating skills on the job or those wishing to enter the construction industry would benefit from this program.

Areas to be covered include the role and responsibilities of the estimator, use of tendering documents, cost planning/control, surveying, material quantities and unit costs, review specifications and take-off quantities and preparation of bid forms. The final phase of the program is designed for students to gain the knowledge necessary to run a complete project on-site. Upon successful completion of the program students will receive a Lambton College Board of Governors Certificate.

Admission Requirements

O.S.S.D. or equivalent

Mature applicants must be at least 19 years of age by the start of classes, be out of secondary school for at least one year and usually do not have a high school diploma. Mature applicant assessment for this program is available in the Counselling Department in the subjects of English and Math. The assessment(s) will demonstrate proficiency in required admission subjects. For more information please contact the Counselling Department at 519-541-2403 x 3412. Academic admission requirements can be obtained through Academic Upgrading and Pre-Programs at Lambton College.

Applications for this program are not accepted through ontariocolleges.ca.

If you are taking part-time courses with the intention of completing a program and earning a credential, you must meet Admission Requirements outlined on the program page. It is the student's responsibility to supply proof of admission requirements to the Office of the Registrar before he/she has completed three courses in the program.

If you do complete the program and do not have the appropriate admission requirements, you will be ineligible to receive your certificate or diploma.

If you believe you have an equivalent level of knowledge and would like credit for Prior Learning Assessment, please contact Counselling at 519-479-1023 at least two weeks before classes begin.
