This diploma program is designed for those seeking challenge and responsibility, advanced technical skills, and are known for paying close attention to detail. Students will learn advanced administrative professional skills and professional business applications to achieve highly-skilled office careers.

Today's competitive global businesses require office professionals to be responsible, to manage the administrative tasks that support their fast-paced, dynamic office environments and to provide effective support to all levels of management. Employers need administrative professionals with exceptional computer skills using a wide variety of software programs, the ability to communicate professionally, the ability to provide excellent customer service, and the organizational expertise to keep the office running smoothly.

Students develop their technical skills including accounting, communication, interpersonal, social media and web management. With a wide variety of hands-on practical experience built into the program, and emphasis on business applications, critical thinking, event management and problem-solving, graduates of the Office Administration - Executive program are fully trained to meet the demands of today's evolving office environment. Students experience an active learning environment including an optional internship in Term 4 that provides up to 180 hours of practical office experience. Executive students are strongly encouraged to register for the CPL-1003: Internship. Students also produce a professional portfolio and participate in a professional mock job interview.

In the 2018 Key Performance Indicators (KPI) survey, 100% of the students were satisfied or very satisfied that the Office Administration - Executive program developed their computer skills. Likewise, 90% of the students were satisfied or very satisfied that the program provided them with the knowledge and skills that were useful for their future career.

Students entering this program are entering a Mobile Learning - Class+ Experience program. The Class+ Experience is exclusive to Lambton College, where technology inspires learning. Co-op students and employers will find this information most useful and can reference this capabilities document to ensure students are gaining the experience they need to fulfull the program requirements.

The student will be capable of the following skills by the end of the term indicated:

Term 3

  • Proficient keyboarding skills (53 nwpm minimum) with an emphasis on excellent spelling, punctuation, grammar and expert proofreading. Advanced Word 2016 to apply mail merge, document markup, long documents, macros and forms, including newsletters. 
  • Advanced level Excel 2016 skills to create, format and edit workbooks using formulas, functions, charts, and graphics. Preparing financial data to track budgets, expenses, sales progress and more. This is a continuation of Spreadsheets Management in Term 2. 
  • Access 2016 to organize business or personal records in a table, perform queries, create forms and professional looking reports. 
  • Project 2016 to facilitate a strong working knowledge of project management skills. 
  • Internet research skills to conduct basic research, gather information to compile comprehensive reports, Internet navigation abilities and other computer skills as required.
  • Simply Accounting including general ledgers, payables, receivables, payroll journals, inventory and account reconciliation. 
  • Practical and advanced oral and written business communications skills including research, proposal writing, and citing information (APA) to produce reports.
  • Business English Skills emphasizing grammar, the writing of memos, letters and short reports with research capabilities. 

Term 4

  • Executive Capstone skills where students participate in a mock interview requiring a career portfolio and once “hired” works on a variety of simulated projects that integrates the Microsoft Office Suite requiring students to problem solve, work in teams, provide excellent customer service, demonstrate organizational abilities and project coordination, produce consistent documentation while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Arrange for and present a meeting/workshop in teams on topics related to the field of Office Administration. MS Teams is used for messaging and file development for collaborative purposes.
  • Web Page Design software to develop, present and publish a professional-looking website incorporating correct design and page layout. Expertise to update web pages and troubleshoot through reading and editing some XHTML coding.
  • Microsoft Publisher 2016 to create and edit publications, newsletters, tri-fold brochures, as well as customizing letterhead and business cards.
  • Microsoft Visio 2016 to create business process flow charts, workflow diagrams and chart organization to develop professional business graphics. Adobe Live Cycle to create basic dynamic forms and correspondence.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills, team building and group dynamics to work well with all levels of management and staff as well as outside clients and vendors.
