Impact Assessment of Vegan vs Standard Diet

Green Story

Challenge/Opportunity:

Sweets from the Earth was founded in 2002 as an all-natural vegan bakery. Their products are handmade in small batches using only the finest 100% plant based ingredients in either their dairy, egg, sesame, peanut and nut free or dairy, egg, wheat and glutton free bakeries. They offer an assortment of cakes, cookies, muffins, bars and squares available at natural food stores, grocery stores, cafes and restaurants across Canada. Sweets from the Earth has partnered with Green Story, an online marketing platform, that provides impactful marketing and consumer engagement solutions specialized for socially and environmentally responsible companies.

Solution/Collaboration:

Sweets from the Earth and Green Story have partnered with Lambton College's Bio-Industrial Process Research Centre to analyze and directly compare the environmental impact of production and post-life cycles of vegan versus non vegan products. Vegan consumers typically like to know the environmental impact of the products they are consuming and the purpose of this proposed project is to examine the production life cycles of specific foods labeled and certified as vegan and those which use non-vegan ingredients such as meat or dairy. The research team will focus on two to three products and break down the ingredients and research the impact of production and use and disposal of each of these material in making the product.

This project will provide benefit to Sweets from the Earth to better market and promote their products to new existing customers and Green Story will be provided the opportunity to develop new vegan clients and also create more informative marketing platforms for existing clients, increasing both Green Story and their client’s potential revenue. The results of this project will also provide benefit to Canada by promoting healthier lifestyles and having positive economic impact.
