SARNIA, October 13, 2015 – Lambton College is pleased to announce it will be adding a new two-year Accounting program to its growing roster of Business diplomas.

Students enrolled in the two-year diploma program will be exposed to the fundamentals of business education while studying important accounting and finance courses. The program will have a strong focus on accounting theory and procedures while providing training in taxation and accounting software.

Yvonne Clarke, Dean, School of Business & Creative Design at Lambton College says the new two-year program was designed to provide students with maximum flexibility.

“Depending on their goals, students will have the opportunity to graduate with an Ontario College Diploma in two years and enter the workforce, or transfer into Lambton College’s three-year Business Administration – Accounting program,” explains Clarke. “The two-year diploma allows graduates to pursue a career in accounting and finance, without becoming Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA).”

Lambton College’s two-year Accounting program provides all the courses required for direct entry into the Chartered Professional Accountants’ new Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance (ACAF). The ACAF was launched to bridge the gap between the skills of diploma holders and the needs of industry employers.

“The credential is separate and distinct from the CPA Program itself, but is the most accessible and flexible intermediate certificate program available in Canada,” says Clarke. “We expect it will be a great job creator for college graduates.”

The new certificate was partially launched in Ontario last month, and will be available in its 10 course entirety for 2016. The ACAF will be nationally recognized and can be pursued online or in-class in as little as one year.

At this time, Lambton College has been approved to offer two of ACAF’s required technical courses.

Additionally, students who transfer into the three-year Accounting program will be have the opportunity to pursue their BComm degree through Lambton College’s partnership with Nipissing University.
