Lambton College claims world championship, two major awards in 24 hours

SARNIA, October 15, 2018 – It was an epic 24 hours for Lambton College.

Hot off the heels of being crowned Enactus World Cup champions late Thursday evening in San Jose, California, members of the team arrived back in Sarnia just in time to accept their Outstanding Business Achievement Award in the Social Responsibility category on behalf of the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce.

That same evening, Lambton College President & CEO, Judith Morris was also awarded the Outstanding Business Achievement Award for Leadership.

Both Morris and members of the Enactus Lambton team had spent the previous week at the Enactus World Cup, where students competed in live rounds of presentations against 34 other international college and university teams before Lambton’s Team Canada faced Egypt, India, and Morocco for the championship. Lambton is the first Canadian College to ever take home the top prize.

Enactus Lambton has built a worldwide reputation as a result of their transformative work, which has changed lives through projects such as One Seed, Hippy Peanut Butter, Cube Zambia, and Strength in Numbers. Their work in Zambia, Africa has raised 270,000 farmers out of poverty creating a middle-class in the country that didn’t previously exist.

Morris was recognized as an established leader, not only for her remarkable tenure at Lambton College (she’s the first female to hold the position of President) but also for her outstanding contributions to the Sarnia-Lambton Community, regional industry, and the provincial education sector. An esteemed champion in education, a passionate community advocate, and a proponent for social justice, Morris is an innovative academic leader whose love for Sarnia-Lambton has helped put the region on the map, promoting the community as a valuable centre of research & innovation, industry training, world-class education, and a welcoming place to live, work and learn.
