SARNIA, November 4, 2019 – A new initiative being led by Enactus Lambton aims to inspire entrepreneurial action among local elementary school students.

The College’s award-winning Enactus team is currently collaborating with educators and advisors from the St. Clair Catholic District School Board on the One Future program, an entrepreneurial leadership development program that will be incorporated into a variety of elementary and secondary classrooms.

The program, which has already been at five Catholic schools in Lambton County, provides hands-on knowledge to assist students in the development of entrepreneurial skills.

Students involved in the program will develop an understanding of entrepreneurial ideas while being introduced to business models that embrace social justice initiatives. Through a series of workshops, students will work to identify a need at the local or global level and then develop presentations to share what they’ve learned and their plan for change.

Weekly course work covers a variety of topics ranging from business planning and global citizenship to critical thinking and marketing strategies. An understanding of entrepreneurial ideas will also be taught including goods vs. services, sustainability and scalability.

“The goal of One Future is to help young students develop initiative and accountability while embracing the opportunity to make change,” said Jon Milos, Faculty Advisor, Enactus Lambton.

“A key focus of our Board’s strategic plan is to engage students in learning that helps them to develop skills that are transferable to their future workplace,” said Deb Crawford, Director of Education for the Board. “The One Future program aligns with our goals, by allowing students to develop critical thinking skills while working on entrepreneurial and social service learning projects.”

“The program is already being piloted among 175 students and there are plans to expand it to other Catholic schools in Sarnia-Lambton,” says Scott Johnson, Superintendent of Education. “Eventually, our Board hopes to organize a final round of competitions that mimic the Enactus circuit, with students presenting their projects in rounds of live presentations.”
