Lambton College Students Honour Local Childcare Professional With Student Choice Award

SARNIA, November 5, 2019 – A local childcare professional has been honoured by a group of Lambton College students for demonstrating community leadership within his field.

Luis Velasquez, a Registered Early Childhood Educator at Oak Avenue Early Childhood Learning Centre, accepted the award during an appreciation event held by program faculty last week.

The Early Childhood Educator Field Supervisor Award is presented annually to a local educator who demonstrates exemplary skills working with children while providing support and mentorship to students enrolled in Lambton College’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program.

Recipients of the award are nominated by second year ECE students following four semesters of field placement. Student are asked to reflect on their experiences working with educators in the field who continually go above and beyond to support and mentor them during their placements.

While there were an amazing group of nominations received, the outpouring of support for Velasquez was undeniable.

Velasquez was described by students as a positive, welcoming and passionate mentor who was continually supportive of ideas and a positive and inspiring role model for both the students and those in his care.

Dana Petko, ECE Faculty at the College, presented the award to Velasquez during the event.
