Lambton College Installs Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

SARNIA, March 4, 2020 – In an effort to transform the campus into a sustainable community environment, Lambton College is pleased to announce the installation of three new Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations in its parking lots.

The new ChargePoint CT- 4021 EV charging stations, located in Lot 4, 6 and 13, are said to be some of the most sophisticated stations on the market and feature cloud computing software that allows the College to monitor usage.

The stations are graded a Level 2 on the EV Charging scale, based on the amount of time it takes a vehicle to charge. College representatives say the new systems should charge an electric vehicle in under six hours.

The installations were included as part of a larger parking realignment plan, which took place at the College in summer 2019. Additional concrete pads were also installed to account for future expansion as demand continues to rise.

Each station has two ports, which allow for two vehicles to charge at once, and are easily identified by the green sign posted above. Currently, only electric and hybrid vehicles are eligible to park in those designated spaces and necessary measures will be taken to enforce that by campus parking officials.

At this time, use of the EV charging stations are being offered free to the community.
