Following Successful Fall Term, Lambton College Commits to Hybrid Academic Plan for Winter

Hybrid Academic Plan for Winter

SARNIA, October 15, 2020 - Lambton College will extend its Hybrid Academic plan into the upcoming Winter Term. The continued limitations of the pandemic coupled with the success of the Fall Term means that delivery of theory courses will remain online, while most hands-on training will take place on campus.

“The blended approach will apply to both program delivery and student services, while adhering to protocols for physical distancing and public health guidelines,” says Rob Kardas, Vice President, Academic & Student Success, Lambton College. “We are confident that our Winter plan will provide students with an opportunity to continue to achieve their program learning outcomes and the high-quality education they have come to expect at Lambton.”

The decision to continue in a hybrid format is based largely on the success of the Fall Hybrid plan along with the implementation of the College's Be Safe, Feel Safe protocols. This approach will see theory-based courses offered online, labs completed face-to-face and Student Services provided in both remote and in-person formats.

The Winter Term will start on Monday, January 18, and will include a one week break halfway through the term.

Kardas says Lambton is well prepared to expand their Hybrid Academic Plan to safely offer labs on campus, as per the guidelines and input provided by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, Sarnia- Lambton Public Health Unit, and Chief Medical Officers at the provincial and federal levels.

As per the provincial mandate requiring the use of masks or face coverings within enclosed publicly-accessible spaces, mask use remains mandatory for every person who accesses the campus. The College has also introduced a new Campus Access Training module that is mandatory for faculty, staff, students, contractors and visitors attending any of the College's campus locations.

As well, increased cleaning, additional hand sanitizing stations and social distancing guidelines have helped to ensure the safety of everyone who is required to spend time on campus.

For the Winter Term, the majority of College staff will continue to work virtually, with the intention of having as few people on campus as possible. Students will also be asked to limit their time on campus.

Everyone entering the campus building (each time) is also required to complete a COVID-19 screening questionnaire. Staff and students can complete the pre-entry questionnaire on their computer or mobile device or via the Lambton Safe App before arriving at the College.
