SARNIA, May 3, 2021 – After years of successful collaboration on a variety of community-focused projects, Lambton College and the City of Sarnia have solidified their long-standing working relationship with the introduction of the Sarnia Civic Lab Partnership.
The formal partnership was announced during a virtual event following the approval of a Memorandum of Understanding outlining the new program at today’s City Council meeting.
Under the umbrella of the Sarnia Civic Lab Partnership, the City and the College will continue to collaborate on joint research initiatives and work together to identify new areas of focus.
The program aims to create a systemic approach to collaboration between local government and the College that will help connect the expertise and capacity in the College to the community’s research and innovation needs.
During the announcement, representatives from both organizations lauded the collaborative innovation that has taken place over the years and the direct benefits of these projects on the citizens of Sarnia-Lambton.
"Lambton College is proud to support our community through research, innovation and entrepreneurship, and we are grateful to have such strong collaboration in these efforts,” said Judith Morris, President & CEO, Lambton College. “The Civic Lab formalizes
what was already a successful, long-standing partnership, and I’m thrilled to know Lambton College and the City of Sarnia will continue to work together on a shared vision of a prosperous future for all.”
The establishment of a formalized partnership means that City and the College will have an official program to share ideas, generate initiatives, define community problems and find solutions. This approach will also help with the development of short-term
and long-term strategies, goals, policies, products and recommendations on how data and resources will be used to meet the needs of community, government and other civic organizations.
“The City and the College have a strong, long-standing relationship. This partnership is another example of our continued collaboration that will help shape City services and programs for years to come. Together, we’ll create a path to advance the community's
needs and look ahead to the city's recovery,” said Mike Bradley, Mayor, City of Sarnia.
There are already 24 projects taking place through the new program with varying levels of economic, environmental and social impacts.
