NOVA Chemicals Health & Research Centre Grand Opening
Lambton College's long-time vision to construct a world-class health centre is officially a reality.
On May 15, 2019 donors, industry partners, health sciences students, and community supporters of Lambton College gathered to celebrate the official grand opening of the newly constructed, 60,000 sq. ft. NOVA Chemicals Health & Research Centre.
Designed to accommodate health sciences programming, interdisciplinary learning, and applied research, the new building boasts a 40-bed nursing lab, two intensive care unit rooms, two simulated advanced care suites, three active learning classrooms, a 140-seat amphitheatre, paramedic lab, and various advanced technology simulation training spaces.
“Lambton College's new NOVA Chemicals Health & Research Centre has changed the dynamic of our institution. We've always provided outstanding health programs, and now our evolving teaching methodologies, coupled with our world-class training facilities will directly contribute to the provision of highly qualified professionals: impacting the future of the healthcare industry,” said Judith Morris, President & CEO, Lambton College.
Designed by Architects Tillmann Ruth Robinson, Morris said the Centre was intentionally constructed to be open and welcoming, providing a first-hand opportunity to showcase the education and training taking place throughout the facility.
The $30M project was funded through the Envision Tomorrow Capital Campaign, established by the Lambton College Foundation in 2015.
Shortly after launching the campaign, the College received $20 million in joint funding from the Governments of Canada and Ontario through the Small Communities Fund. Lambton County Council has also committed $5 Million to the the project.
In October 2015, the College received a $2 million financial donation on behalf of NOVA Chemicals to help fund the new Centre. The donation remains the single largest educational investment ever made by the local industrial manufacturer and included the corporate naming rights to the building.
“Our support and financial contribution of $2 million to the Envision Tomorrow Capital and Equipment Renewal Campaign is a natural extension of our commitment to investing in the well-being of our communities. As the single largest educational investment NOVA Chemicals has ever made, we are proud to work alongside the College for the betterment of students and Sarnia-Lambton, We share the belief that building healthy communities can start with inspiring and engaging youth and the impact this facility will have on our next generation will no doubt be significant,” said Tom Thompson, Regional Manufacturing - Director Ontario Operations, NOVA Chemicals.
Additional contributions from industry and community partners helped to bring the project to full completion and are now displayed on a newly unveiled donor wall within the building.
