Program Information

Esports is an ever-evolving term used to describe the emerging global, multi-billion dollar industry of sports competition facilitated by electronic video game systems. In the Lambton College Esports Entrepreneurship & Administration, Ontario College Diploma, students can take their passion and enthusiasm for competitive gaming and develop skills in the dynamic, fast-paced and growing industry of esports Business.

In this cutting-edge program, students learn general business skills while developing a strong foundational knowledge of the esports industry. Students study communications, sports marketing, finance, ethical leadership, teamwork, social media, health promotion, entrepreneurship and business development.

Specifically tailored, hands-on courses include esports gaming topics such as the history of esports, industry hardware/software, game design and computer networking. In addition, the business models behind team management and tournaments are studied in detail, with the culmination of learning in the practical project course where students integrate the knowledge obtained throughout the program to plan, develop and execute real-world esports projects.

Graduates of the program are prepared to pursue a variety of career opportunities including team and league esports management and organization, marketing and promotion, event management and many more. Some graduates may also pursue an entrepreneurial career in esports as a pro-player, coach or a streamer, an online player people pay to watch.

Qualifying graduates of the Esports Entrepreneurship & Administration program will be eligible to continue on to the three-year Sports and Recreation Management program and may pursue university articulation opportunities in related areas.

Students entering this program are entering a Mobile Learning - Class+ Experience program. The Class+ Experience is exclusive to Lambton College, where technology inspires learning. Mobile devices allow students to experience learning both inside and outside the classroom, integrating educational apps and tools into class activities. See device requirements.

Admission Requirements

O.S.S.D. or equivalent with:
Grade 12 English C or U

Mature applicants must be at least 19 years of age by the start of classes, be out of secondary school for at least one year and usually do not have a high school diploma. Mature applicant assessment for this program is available in the Counselling Department in the subject of English. The assessment will demonstrate proficiency in required admission subjects. For more information please contact the Counselling Department at ext 3412. Academic admission requirements can be obtained through Academic Upgrading and Pre-Programs at Lambton College.

Employment Opportunities

The world of gaming and esports is cutting edge. Therefore, specific roles are evolving as the industry expands. However, it can be determined that roles will come from the management, marketing, advertising, sales and promotions fields.

Career positions may include, but are not limited to: marketing management, brand management, tournament manager, Emedia coordinator, Emarketing manager, Esports manager and Esports coach.
