Salon and spa service providers across the globe are looking for qualified Estheticians to work with their clients. Our graduates set themselves apart from the competition by training in one of the largest training labs in Canada, with state-of-the-art facilities that prepare them for this growing profession.
The Esthetician program is an Ontario College Diploma offered over three consecutive terms. A graduate from this program will have completed an official two-year Ontario College Diploma in only 12 months.
Students learn a full range of spa services including skin care, semi-permanent hair removal, body treatments, makeup applications, manicures and pedicures. Curriculum emphasizes general business, sales, professionalism, and health and safety.
Upon graduation, students will obtain over 600 hours of practical hands-on experience while training at Salon & Spa at Lambton, as well as comprehensive in-class education from qualified and experienced instructors. The Salon & Spa at Lambton is a live practical lab where students provide esthetic services and practice business skills in preparation for spa management or ownership. Clients from the community eagerly await the opening of the Salon & Spa every term.
Students have the opportunity to take a field placement course that exposes them to many different esthetic locations including retail based operations, day spas and more. This experience allows them to familiarize themselves with a variety of potential work environments. It is also a great way for students to make valuable connections with potential future employers.

COM-1113: Workplace Communications
This course focuses on skills required in any organization or position: writing business documents, responding to realistic scenarios, and speaking in an organized and vibrant manner. Students will practice professional communications skills by producing, revising, and editing short business documents and engaging in verbal interactions and presentations.
SPA-1013: Manicure
Students learn the anatomy of the arm, hand and fingernail, including nail disorders and diseases. Sequential steps to a manicure including cuticle care, proper filing/shaping techniques, hand and arm massage and professional polish applications are taught. Students learn and practice sterilization procedures in accordance with Canada Health and Safety Standards.
SPA-1023: Pedicure
Students learn the anatomy of the lower leg, foot and toenail. Benefits of foot care are discussed. Common disorders of the feet are discussed and contraindications for pedicure treatments are explained. Consultation and record keeping are instructed and practiced. Attracting clients and the potential to increase sales are discussed. Students learn the sequential steps to a professional pedicure, including massage of the foot and leg, spa pedicure options and various polishing techniques. Professionalism is studied and implemented.
SPA-1033: Hair Removal I
This hybrid course explores anatomy of the follicle/hair structure and appendages. Proper waxing techniques are demonstrated, followed by close supervision of "hands on practice". Proper hygienic procedures are stressed. Students learn and practice sterilization procedures in accordance with Canada Health and Safety standards.
SPA-1044: Applied Spa Experience I
This course provides students the opportunity to practice on fellow students and perfect the skills they have acquired during this semester; in a professional spa setting. All facets of daily spa activities are introduced. Students are responsible for booking appointments, laundry, cleaning as well as performing services. Professionalism is stressed. Students learn and practice sterilization and sanitation procedures in accordance with Canada Health and Safety standards.
SPA-1053: Skin Care I
This course introduces the student to the integumentary system. Fundamentals of cosmetic chemistry, product knowledge, nutrition for the skin and electricity are included. Basic professional facial procedures are taught. Professional image, conduct and procedures are discussed and implemented. Students will learn and demonstrate best practices for decontamination in accordance to Canada's Health and Safety Standards.
SPA-3062: Salon and Spa Development I
In this online course, the challenges of successfully owning and/or operating a spa, salon or related business are introduced in this course. Emphasis is placed on communication, marketing strategies and professionalism. The importance of selling services and products and building positive client relationships are discussed.
SPA-3013: Make-up Artistry and Applications
Course content includes various professional makeup techniques and discussion on the latest products available. A focus is placed on daytime and evening makeup application looks. Bridal, photography, creative and glamour looks are explored. Instruction on brow shaping and artificial lash application is included and practiced by students. Students study best practices for decontamination according to Canada Health and Safety Standards.
SPA-2033: Hair Removal II
Continuing from Level I, Hair Removal Level II expands on hair removal methods, products, and innovative technology. Students spend 30 hours in our on-site spa/ lab practicing advanced techniques (including Brazilian). Permanent hair removal methods are discussed and/or demonstrated. Hygienic procedures and professionalism are stressed. Students learn and practice sterilization and sanitation procedures in accordance with Canada Health and Safety standards.
SPA-2046: Applied Spa Experience II
This course gives students the opportunity to practice on fellow students and members of the college community. Students have the opportunity to "fine tune" the skills they have acquired in this semester and the previous semester, spending 90 hours in a professional spa setting. Using computer skills, students are responsible for booking appointments, as well as laundry, cleaning, performing services and taking inventory. Professionalism is stressed. Students learn and practice sterilization and sanitation procedures in accordance with Canada Health and Safety standards.
SPA-2054: Skin Care II
Continuing from level 1, Skin Care Level II includes advanced skin type specific treatments. Advanced esthetic equipment are studied and utilized in facial treatments. Various product lines are studied. Students perform facials on fellow students to meet industry expectations. Students learn and practice sterilization and sanitation procedures in accordance with Canada Health and Safety standards.
SPA-3004: Nail Technology and Chemistry
Various methods of artificial nail applications are taught in this course. Safe and proper handling of all chemical components of the gel systems are stressed. Students learn and practice sterilization and sanitation procedures in accordance with Canada Health and Safety standards as related to nail care services.
SPA-4062: Salon and Spa Development II
Building on the skills and knowledge presented in Salon and Spa Development I, students examine the challenges of success owning and/or operating a spa/salon or related business. Employee personalities and management are discussed. Students expand on promotions and marketing ideas. Emphasis is placed on communication, professionalism, business mathemetics and the details of how to create a business plan.
SPA-2024: Structure and Function of the Skin and Body
This course is designed to introduce the student to human anatomy and physiology and the eleven systems of the body, with a focus on study of the integumentary system. Biology of the skin and its functions, skin types and conditions, skin diseases and disorders and the effects on skin of genetics and the environment are all studied. Product knowledge and ingredients, cosmeceuticals and nutriceuticals are considered. Sanitation, current disinfection practices and bacteriology will also be investigated.

Continuing from Skin Care I and II, Skin Care Level III includes advanced skin type specific treatments and techniques utilizing advanced esthetic equipment. Various product lines and active ingredients are studied. Students perform facial treatments on each other, members of the College community, and the public to meet industry expectations. Students learn and practice sterilization and sanitation procedures in accordance with Canada Health and Safety standards.
SPA-4004: Innovative Techniques
This course teaches the student how to perform full body treatments. Students learn the anatomy and physiology of the body, product knowledge, a basic understanding of aromatherapy as well as nutritional information to better understand the holistic workings of the body. Students practice their skills in class. Students practice safety and sanitation standards in accordance with Health Canada.
SPA-4049: Final Applied Spa Experience
This course gives students the opportunity to practice on fellow students and members of the college community, and the general public. Students have the opportunity to further "fine tune" the skills they have acquired this semester and in the previous year. Using computer skills, marketing knowledge, and esthetic skills students are responsible for booking appointments, laundry, cleaning, performing services, taking inventory, promoting the on -site spa, maintaining client relations, and building a client data base. Professionalism is stressed. Students learn and practice sterilization and sanitation procedures in accordance with Canada Health and Safety standards.
SPAF-4065: Field Placement
Students will be exposed to a wide range of atmospheres in the esthetics industry. This will be accomplished by 1 or 2 day visits to various businesses and Esthetic trade shows.
SPA-3073: Introduction to Medical Esthetics and Advanced Treatments
This course introduces the student to the advancing field of medical esthetics and advanced esthetics treatments and services. Students learn about opportunities in the field and available options and training requirements for a variety of services. Theory of laser applications and product knowledge are presented. Best practices for decontamination are discussed. Guest speakers and demonstrations are included in the course. Opportunities for micro-certifications are offered for a variety of services.

Employment Opportunities
Our graduates have found positions both in Canada and around the world on cruise ships, hotels, spas and beauty salons. Some graduates will find work in sales as associate personnel, product trainers and/or distributors of esthetic products. Others may find employment with plastic surgeons or dermatologists. Some graduates will find fulfillment in entrepreneurial opportunities.
