Lambton College’s Industrial Management Graduate Certificate prepares technical professionals for leadership roles by combining engineering principles with business strategies to optimize operations and drive efficiency in industrial environments.

The Industrial Management Graduate Certificate at Lambton College prepares technically trained professionals to advance into leadership roles in industrial, manufacturing, and production settings. This two-semester program combines engineering principles with business and management practices, equipping students to optimize operations and drive efficiency. The curriculum emphasizes lean and Six Sigma methodologies, quality assurance, health and safety standards, and resource planning, while developing financial and data-driven decision-making skills. Graduates learn to lead multidisciplinary teams, implement quality and safety systems, and integrate technology and human resources strategically. Career opportunities include roles such as production supervisor, process improvement analyst, and quality systems specialist across sectors like advanced manufacturing, energy, automotive, and logistics.

Admission Requirements

  • Diploma, advanced diploma, degree, or equivalent in fields such as engineering technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, business, statistics, or other related disciplines

English Language Requirements

Applicants must submit proof of English proficiency through one of the following in-person test methods:

  • IELTS Academic: Overall score of 6.0
  • TOEFL IBT: Overall score of 70
  • PTE Academic: Overall score of 53
  • CAEL: Overall score of 60
  • CELPIP: CLB 7
  • Lambton Institute of English Placement Test: Overall score of 70 
  • Completion of an English pathway program at a recognized partner school

Meeting the minimum English requirements does not guarantee admission. Students with higher English proficiency scores will receive priority in the admission assessment process. Not all students will qualify for EAP-3106 in place of the required IELTS or TOEFL test scores.

MAN-1103
Human Resource Management

Effective Human Resources Management (HRM) is critical to the success of organizations today. This course will provide an overview of the key concepts of HR management and will include some history and theory of the HR function and important terminology. It will introduce students to the core competencies of effective HR practitioners and allow for self-assessment against these competencies. We will be discussing core HR practice areas such as Strategic Planning, HR Planning, HR Administration, Talent Management, Training, Learning and Development, Performance Assessment, Total Rewards (including Compensation and Benefits) Employee and Labour Relations and Health and Safety in the workplace. In addition, the course looks at the legal environment for effective HR management, and the role of HRM in mergers and acquisitions and organizational change management.

MS Project and Data Analytics

In this course, the student is introduced to understanding, organizing, and presenting data in useful visual formats to able to interpret, analyze and make decisions on a project. The student is presented with a number of techniques and tools within MS Excel and MS Project to aid with data analysis. Upon completion, the student will be able to use a number of advanced features within Excel as well as create a complete MS Project Schedule. The student will have the knowledge to monitor the progress of the project using Earned Value Management and utilize several reporting tools within MS Project.

Ethical Leadership & Critical Decision Making

This interdisciplinary course combines insights from the field of business with social psychology and applied ethics to challenge students with an introspective look at some of today's most important ethical dilemmas. Students in PHL-1253 learn that the ethical standards employed by businesses and corporations ultimately concern the quality of human behaviours in those organizations. Human behaviour evolves from many influences: our past relationships, the ways we think and feel, how we respond to pressures in various social contexts, and how we deliberate in our daily thoughts and actions. Each of these influences is intimately involved with the quality of our ethical decision making.

Implementation of Integrated Management Systems

This course introduces students to the concept of Integrated Management Systems (IMS) which combine standards for quality, occupational health and safety, and environmental management. The integrated approach allows an organization to realize the benefits of multiple standards within a single simplified management system. Students learn implementation procedures and discuss example system manuals and procedures.

This course introduces students to principles, practices and types of management system audits and equips them to demonstrate the valuable contribution that audit programs provide to organizations. Students gain an overview of the past and present state of auditing as well as an understanding of auditing trends.

Operations Management

Operations and supply chain management have evolved into one of today's most important business disciplines. In the dynamic world of manufacturing and service delivery, designing systems more effectively and efficiently is a key source of competitive advantage. This course introduces business students to foundational concepts and practical methods used in the design and operations of manufacturing and service firms. Students explore strategic decisions related to how firms compete including operations strategy, supply chain design, process and facility design, and capacity planning. Students also learn tactical and day-to-day strategies for inventory management, forecasting, resource scheduling, quality control, project management, and lean operating systems.

This course provides student with skills and knowledge to help support their career search and succeed in the workplace. Students align their personal skill set and goals to guide them on their career paths. They will learn how to effectively conduct a job search, build a professional and well-tailored resume and cover letter, and develop and practice interview techniques. Students will also develop their personal brand to help support effective career networking and aid in their job search. Teamwork and collaboration in the workplace are also discussed. Self-reflection is used to inspire insight and support their professional career journey.

Managing Operational Excellence in the Organization

This course defines the concept of Operational Excellence and explains how to achieve performance and financial improvements in an organization. The focus is creating a culture that questions current operating models, adds value, and optimizes speed. Student will discuss the importance of quality management which is detailed in seven steps. Students learn to apply methodologies such as TQM, Lean Value Stream Mapping and Six Sigma and the role they play in helping organizations meet customer expectations.

This subject is an examination of the contemporary Canadian business environment including the organization, leadership and management decision process which influences the behaviour of individuals and groups. Increased global competition, technological change and the rising expectations of both employees and employers have underlined the need for improved and more effective leadership. This subject provides a better understanding of this process.

Introduction to Process Safety

In this course, students will investigate the prevention of unintentional releases of chemicals, energy, or other potentially dangerous materials during the course of chemical processes that can have a serious effect to the workplace and environment. Students will study how industrial processes can affect worker and environmental health and safety.

Effective Communication for Quality Engineers

Effective Communication for Quality Engineers Students will learn and apply strategies for communicating complex scientific information orally and in written form. Emphasis is placed on how the information can be applied in industry. Students will practice identifying and distilling key points for a variety of audiences and goals, including project proposals, updates, and the impact of challenges on project progress.

Problem Solving and Decision-Making Techniques

This course explores the relationship between continuous improvement methods and the application of structured problem-solving techniques. Students practice basic continuous improvement techniques such as Kaizen, 5S, PDCA, error proofing, quality circles, and Six Sigma. Students build on these continuous improvement methods by applying problem-solving techniques such as Eight Disciplines (8D) and the Six Sigma DMAIC process to work through real world case studies. Students identify improvement opportunities, root cause and develop improvement plans that lead to permanent and effective corrective actions.

Directed Study Capstone

Culmination of learning .In this course, students engage in relevant, meaningful activities that are connected and practiced in real life, thus enhancing and strengthening employability prospects post-graduation. In this culmination of learning, students will plan, revise and execute their own projects using core quality tools. Students will practice creating project proposals, updates, and communicating about the impact of challenges on project progress. This course will provide students an opportunity to apply prior program learning in areas such as planning, risk assessment, control, monitoring, and testing techniques to a product or service, and will bridge the gap between theoretical and practical learning.

Internet Speed Requirements

To get the best experience while learning online, we recommend having an internet connection with at least 40 Mbps download speed and 10 Mbps upload speed. This will help you use video calls, attend online lectures, and access other learning tools smoothly.

Because students live in many different areas, we can't suggest a specific internet provider. You'll need to check with local companies to find one that works best for you.

In order to access the internet and virtually-delivered software and courseware, student laptops should include the following at a minimum. By meeting the following specifications, students will be equipped to access software and courseware on their laptop through the internet:

Lambton College has made this software easily accessible online. Students can leverage our Microsoft Office 365 software packages and services. In addition, much of the software you require for your courses will be available on demand for use on any device - on or off campus.
