Overview
Are you a creative individual who likes to understand how adults learn? This program will allow you to develop curriculum for a variety of training.
The Instructional Design program is for students interested in the theory, practice and design of instructional content for many popular modes of delivery. This program provides the theoretical and practical foundations necessary for the development of instruction and training for higher education, corporate training and subject-specific workshops.
Students learn to develop learning outcomes, employ instructional design strategies, design learning activities and assessments, select appropriate learning technologies, and assess accessibility and usability in course design. Students learn to analyze the requirements, design elements and structure of courses built using the instructional design principles taught in the program.

Applications for this program are not accepted through ontariocolleges.ca.
Mature Student Assessment for this program is available in the subject of English for the purpose of demonstrating proficiency in this required admission subject. For all other admission requirements, applicants must complete the required course(s) as listed above. For more information, please contact counselling@lambtoncollege.ca. Academic admission requirements can be obtained through Academic Upgrading and the Pre-Programs at Lambton College.
Prior Learning Assessment
If you believe you have an equivalent level of knowledge and would like credit through Prior Learning Assessment, please contact online@lambtoncollege.ca or call 519-479-1023 at least two weeks before classes begin.
Credential Eligibility
If you are taking courses with the intention of completing this program and earning a credential, you must meet the Admission Requirements. It is your responsibility to supply proof of admission requirements to the Office of the Registrar before completing three courses in this program.
If you complete the program but fail to provide proof of admission requirements, you will be ineligible to receive your credential.

Textbook costs may be applicable to each course. Most textbooks can be purchased through textnet.ca, but some exceptions do apply. Graduation Fees
Students who successfully complete all the academic requirements for this program should submit their intent to graduate in order to receive their credential. The graduate module can be completed on myLambton via Self Service.
A graduation fee of about $75 is added to your account upon verification that admission requirements have been met. For exact fees contact your Enrolment Services Professional.
Technology Requirements
In order to keep pace with the requirements of each and every course in your program, Lambton College requires that each student have access to a laptop while studying at our college.

This course explores the foundational principles of instructional design including learning theories and pedagogical models that are commonly used in the instructional design process. The student will write and align measurable learning outcomes with curriculum and ensure course content is compliant with current industry design and accesssibility standards.

Digital pedagogy deals with not only the use of technology, but the appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience and engage the learner. This course will prepare students to evaluate, recommend and implement digital tools in a face to face, online, or hybrid environment.

This course will prepare students to design a hybrid module from start to finish. Important issues on mixed-mode lesson planning are discussed as well as learning strategies geared towards both face to face and online delivery. Assessment strategies for hybrid delivery are also key to the design process and we will explore best practices for assessment creation and alignment.

Design backward and build forward is an important instructional design principle. This course will explore the importance of aligning assessments to course and module outcomes. Activities and exercises which scaffold to the formative or summative assessments are discussed. The course also speaks to how to use quizzes and pre or post assessments effectively by keeping an eye to instructional design principles.

A successful learning experience comes not only from proper curriculum and instructional design but also adhering to quality assurance protocols. In this course students explore a variety of quality assurance protocols as they apply to course development. The concept of piloting to gather students and instructor feedback is also discussed.

Course development involves managing not only the design of curriculum but also managing time requirements and other key milestones. This course explores important concepts in project management specifically for educational design and development. Students will explore the use of project management tools as well as create timelines and deliverables for a specific project. Common challenges and troubleshooting techniques that are integral to project management will also be discussed.

This course will explore the roles and scope of the instructional designer and subject matter expert in the framework of an instructional design project. Students will develop effective conflict resolution strategies as well as interpersonal communication skills. Communication skills to provide feedback and drive course revisions will also be covered.

Course design is a constantly evolving field with new technologies and trends continuing to emerge. Technology Requirements
It is required that students purchase a laptop with a Windows operating system.
Internet Speed Requirements
For best performance for students learning remotely, an internet connection with a minimum of 40 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speed is recommended in order to effectively use video conferencing and remote lecture delivery software as well as, other online resources remotely. Due to the large area over which students may be dispersed, we are unable to recommend a specific provider, so you will need to inquire around your area to find one that best suits your needs.
Minimum Laptop Requirements
In order to access the internet and virtually-delivered software and courseware, student laptops should include the following at a minimum. By meeting the following specifications, students will be equipped to access software and courseware on their laptop through the internet:
- Intel i5 8th Gen Processor or equivalent
- 16 GB of RAM (with a minimum of 8 GB)
- 100 GB HDD or more
- HD Graphics
- Webcam with a microphone
- Wireless 802.11n/ac 5ghz capable
- Windows Operating System (Windows 11)
Software
To ensure students are getting the most our of their classroom experience, some software will be required.
Lambton College has made this software easily accessible online. Students can leverage our Microsoft Office 365 software packages and services. In addition, much of the software you require for your courses will be available on demand for use on any device - on or off campus.
