A breast cancer diagnosis once threw a curveball into the lives of Erika and Allan Bezaire. With Erika now cancer-free, the Bezaires and the Lambton Lions Men’s Baseball Team are throwing one back in support of enhanced care for others undergoing cancer treatment.
As Head Coach of the Lions Baseball Team, Allan shared with his players a simple idea to support the redevelopment of the Bluewater Health Cancer Care Clinic. That idea grew into Curveballs for Cancer Care, presented by Marcotte Disposal, a community fundraising event hosted by the Lions in partnership with Bluewater Health Foundation.
The afternoon promises family fun with games, contests, giveaways, and a raffle featuring prizes such as a WestJet trip for two to the destination of the winner’s choice and a Blue Jays game prize pack. The action takes place Saturday, September 20 at 1:00 pm at Errol Russell Park as the Lions face off against the Sault College Cougars in a double-header.
“The care Erika received from Bluewater Health was truly exceptional, and we’re thrilled to have found such a fitting way to support the campaign to redevelop the Cancer Care Clinic,” said Allan Bezaire, Head Coach of the Lambton Lions Men’s Baseball Team and Border Services Program Coordinator at Lambton College. “We’re grateful to Lambton College, the Sarnia-Lambton community, and our sponsors for making this event possible. We can’t wait to see everyone at the ballpark.”
The redevelopment of Bluewater Health’s Cancer Care Clinic is a multi-year renovation project that will help Bluewater Health continue to provide the highest standard of care for the people of Sarnia-Lambton. Bluewater Health Foundation is working towards a fundraising goal of $5 million. With the Curveballs for Cancer Care event, the Lambton Lions are hoping to make a meaningful contribution towards that goal and help raise awareness of the fundraising campaign.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity and community spirit behind Curveballs for Cancer Care,” said Kathy Alexander, Executive Director, Bluewater Health Foundation. “The support of the Lambton Lions, their partners, and everyone who contributes to this event helps bring us closer to our $5 million goal for the redevelopment of Bluewater Health's Cancer Care Clinic.”
“We’re proud of our student-athletes for taking the initiative on such an important fundraising cause,” said Rob Kardas, President & CEO, Lambton College. “The Bluewater Health Cancer Care Clinic is near and dear to the hearts of so many in Sarnia-Lambton, including in our Lambton College community, and we’re excited to support it with a great day of baseball and family fun.”
