SARNIA, November 5, 2025 – Lambton College has joined a new national initiative designed to help students build the skills needed to succeed as artificial intelligence (AI) transforms the world of work.

The national AI Workforce Readiness (AIWR) consortium, led by the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) and supported by Google.org, brings together 29 colleges, polytechnics, and universities across Canada, including Lambton College, to integrate practical AI learning into existing programs of study.

The collaboration will help students in specific fields of student learn how AI can be applied to real-world challenges in their future workplaces and communities.

“Lambton College students are graduating into a changing workforce where AI is becoming integrated into nearly every industry,” said Rob Kardas, President & CEO, Lambton College. “Our work to stay at the forefront of AI is essential for equipping our students with the skills and confidence they need to be successful now and into the future.”

Lambton College’s Ontario postsecondary counterparts in the consortium include the University of Waterloo, University of Guelph, McMaster University, Collège Boréal, St. Lawrence College, Sheridan College, and Conestoga College.

Amii’s machine learning educators will work directly with subject-matter experts from each partner institution in dedicated working groups to create specialized, open-source resources tailored to specific programs of study. Through membership in the consortium, Lambton College will have access to all Curriculum Resource Packages and will participate in the development of future packages.

The Curriculum Resource Packages are designed to build AI competencies for students entering specific fields. Each one includes a variety of learning assets, such as:

  • Reading and discussion materials
  • Real-world use cases and case studies
  • Videos and activities
  • Assessments and labs

“This work goes beyond learning how to use AI tools,” said John Rose, Simulation Technologist, Lambton College. “It’s about helping students understand how AI actually works, including its possibilities, limits, and impacts, so they can think critically and use it responsibly in their fields.”

Lambton College’s participation in AIWR complements its leadership in AI for Advanced Manufacturing (AI4AM), a development site designed to accelerate AI adoption in Ontario’s advanced manufacturing sector as part of provincial initiative. These initiatives help position Lambton College and the Sarnia-Lambton region at the forefront of Canada’s AI-enabled future.
