Here for the Future

Lambton College’s new residence is more than a building – it’s a commitment to Sarnia-Lambton and the students who will shape its future as workers and community members.

Enhancing Campus Life

Living in residence serves as an introduction to both Lambton College and the Sarnia-Lambton community. Building a modern new residence allows us to further enhance the student life experience our College and Student Administrative Council (SAC) has already developed and inspire even more stories of student and community success.

The new residence will be a five-storey building on the north end of campus towards London Road in the green space to the east of the EarlyON Centre. It will be closely connected to our buildings, and it will provide easy access to our campus grounds and trails for student health and wellness.

To give our students the amenities and built-in social opportunities they want, the residence will feature:

  • A mix of hybrid and apartment suites
  • Kitchens
  • A micro market
  • Study spaces
  • Lounges and communal spaces
  • Outdoor patio space

Innovative P3 Partnership

For a project of this magnitude, we needed a partner that understands the important role Lambton College plays in Sarnia-Lambton, as well as the built-in community we want to provide for our residence students.

Our new residence is being developed through an innovative public-private partnership (P3) with Tilbury Properties Corporation and Fengate Asset Management, who will design, construct, finance, operate, and maintain the residence.

Tilbury is a boutique development firm with roots in Southwestern Ontario and experience in developing transformative student housing.

Teeple Architects will be completing the design.

Ball Construction will oversee the build.

Consultations & Research

Lambton College’s unique approach to this project was established following extensive work with Ernst & Young LLP (EY Canada) over the past four years, which included:

  • Reassessing the College’s current approach to student housing and exploring various alternative models of housing delivery.
  • Market demand analysis to provide an understanding of the number of units and unit mix a new residence would require, desired student amenities, and rent projections.
  • Market Outreach Summary following consultations with five market stakeholders and three institutional stakeholders.
  • Long-term financial analysis of development options, which determined a P3 was best suited to bring Lambton College’s vision for the future of student housing to life.

Home for the Future

Sarnia-Lambton is a place where meaningful careers are attained and fulfilling lives are built, and this residence is where many future community members will begin to call Sarnia-Lambton home.
